Job description:
At The Oakville Pump & Patio, we focus on delivering an exceptional dine-in and takeout experience to our neighbourhood. In order to offer the best, we know we need the best; each member of our team plays an integral role in providing our guests with the high-quality food and service that we strive for. We are searching for an Expo that has exceptional teamwork capabilities, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and grow, and enjoys having fun. The successful candidate must hold a strong sense of ownership over the work they produce, have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and learn quickly, and be comfortable with the responsibilities bestowed upon them, as our menu is large, our kitchen is high-output, and the role of the expo sits in between all of this. The host will be the first point of contact for our guests, providing excellent customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere while greeting guests, controlling the flow of the restaurant, managing reservations, maintaining a clean and tidy restaurant, overseeing the efficient and correct delivery of food orders from the kitchen to the dining area, delivery drivers and takeout customers, maintaining a strong working knowledge of all menus, daily specials and events, and complying with all restaurant policies and procedures.
Host Responsibilities
- Greeting and Seating Guests: Welcome guests as they arrive, provide them with menus, escort them to their tables, manage reservations and seating arrangements, and ensure a positive dining experience.
- Monitor the flow of guests, manage wait times, and keep guests informed about the status of their tables.
- Respond to guest inquiries, concerns, and special requests. Provide information about menu items, events, specials, and restaurant policies.
- Ensure that the host stand, dining area and kitchen are clean, organized, and properly stocked.
- Answer phone calls, provide information to callers, and facilitate takeout orders over the phone.
- Attend meetings and complete all required training.
- Maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene and dress.
- Set and change tables to company policy, ensuring that all items used are clean, undamaged and in a good state of repair.
Expo Responsibilities
- Inspect food orders to ensure accuracy, presentation,
and quality before they are served to guests.
- Place the final touches on all dishes that leave the kitchen.
- Package food for takeout and delivery.
- Help control the order flow of takeout and delivery.
- Coordinating with Servers and Kitchen Staff: Act as a liaison between the front-of-house and back-of-house teams. Communicate food orders accurately to the kitchen and coordinate with servers to ensure food is delivered to the correct tables promptly.
- Help run food and speak with guests when necessary.
Requirements
- Strong customer service experience.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Professional appearance and manners.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Ability to adapt to technological changes with point of sale systems, reservation systems, etc.

Working Conditions
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Manual dexterity required to use devices, equipment and peripherals.
- Lifting or moving up to 20lbs may be required.
- Ability to move with urgency / walk fast.
- Willingness to work beyond scheduled time as business requires.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors as the seasons change.
