About ProForma Engineering
ProForma Engineering delivers practical, reliable engineering solutions for industrial projects. We are looking for an experienced Process Piping Designer who is passionate about delivering high-quality piping designs, solving technical challenges, and contributing to successful project execution.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys developing practical piping solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and taking ownership of design deliverables from concept through construction. You'll have the chance to work on a diverse range of industrial projects while mentoring junior designers and continuing to grow your technical expertise.
The Role
As a Process Piping Designer, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating industrial piping designs for a variety of process and mechanical systems. Working closely with Engineers, Project Managers, Designers, and clients, you will prepare detailed 3D models, piping layouts, fabrication drawings, and construction deliverables that support safe, practical, and efficient project execution.
You will take ownership of assigned piping design packages, coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, provide guidance to junior designers, and help ensure designs meet project requirements, applicable codes, and ProForma quality standards.
What You’ll Do
- Develop detailed 3D piping models, piping layouts, isometric drawings, general arrangement drawings, and construction packages for industrial facilities.
- Design piping systems that consider constructability, operability, maintainability, safety, accessibility, and project schedules.
- Produce accurate piping routing, equipment connections, tie-ins, pipe support layouts, and piping fabrication drawings.
- Coordinate piping designs with mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and process engineering disciplines.
- Review P&IDs; and ensure piping models accurately reflect process design intent.
- Prepare piping material take-offs, bills of materials, line lists, valve lists, and other project documentation.
- Perform model reviews, clash detection,
and design coordination to resolve interdisciplinary conflicts.
- Review vendor drawings and incorporate supplier information into project models and drawings.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
- Conduct field investigations, site walkdowns, and as-built verification to support brownfield and greenfield projects.
- Support construction, fabrication, and commissioning by responding to technical questions and resolving design issues.
- Review the work of junior designers and provide mentorship and technical guidance.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with project standards, applicable industry codes, company procedures, and quality requirements.
- Manage assigned deliverables while balancing multiple priorities and project deadlines.
What We're Looking For
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design Technology, or a related engineering technology discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial piping design within consulting engineering, EPC, manufacturing, mining, energy, utilities, or related industries.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD, CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D, or similar piping design software.
- Experience producing piping layouts, isometric drawings, general arrangement drawings, piping fabrication drawings, and 3D models.
- Strong understanding of P&IDs;, piping specifications, line classes, pipe supports, and industrial design standards.
- Familiarity with ASME piping codes, CSA standards, and other applicable industry codes is considered an asset.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of industrial facilities including process piping, utilities, pumps, tanks, vessels,
and mechanical equipment.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a project team.
- Eligibility for registration with CTTAM (or equivalent provincial technology association) is considered an asset.
What Will Help You Succeed
- You confidently manage projects and take ownership of your work.
- You consistently deliver accurate, practical, and high-quality designs.
- You proactively identify design challenges and develop effective solutions.
- You communicate effectively with engineers, clients, vendors, and project teams.
- You enjoy mentoring junior designers and sharing your technical knowledge.
- You understand how piping design decisions affect fabrication, construction, operations, and maintenance.
- You remain organized while balancing multiple concurrent projects.
- You maintain professionalism and contribute positively to collaborative project environments.
- You prioritize safety and quality throughout every stage of the design process.
Why Join ProForma Engineering
- Meaningful work on industrial projects with real-world impact.
- Opportunities for mentorship and technical development.
- Exposure to multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- A collaborative team environment with strong qualified standards.
- The opportunity to build practical experience and grow your career.
