We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and hands-on Caretaker/Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our two independent living, low-cost senior rental residences in Prince Rupert, BC. This role combines property management, light maintenance, janitorial duties, and resident support to ensure protected, clean, and welcoming environments for our senior tenants.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, resident-focused, and comfortable managing responsibilities across two sites. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors while maintaining high standards in affordable housing.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of common areas, grounds, and facilities at both residences (e.g., hallways, laundry rooms, entrances, and outdoor spaces).
- Conduct minor repairs (plumbing, electrical, painting, caulking, flooring, etc.) and coordinate with contractors or trades for major work.
- Ensure building security, responding to emergencies, and maintaining fire safety systems.
- Oversee tenant relations: address resident concerns, show units to prospective tenants, process move-ins/move-outs, and enforce house rules respectfully.
- Manage administrative tasks such as record-keeping, inventory of supplies, basic reporting, rent collection support, and compliance with residential tenancy regulations.
- Maintain exterior grounds (snow removal in winter, litter pickup, landscaping basics).
- Monitor building systems (heating, ventilation, etc.) and report issues promptly.
- Perform regular inspections of units and common areas for safety, cleanliness, and maintenance needs.
- Be available for on-call/emergency response (rotating schedule).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous experience as a caretaker, building manager, janitor, or in property maintenance (ideally in residential or senior housing).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor repairs safely.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — empathy and patience are essential when working with seniors.
- Reliable transportation to travel between the two sites.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while prioritizing resident safety and comfort.
- Valid BC driver's license and clean driving record preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
- Clear criminal record check (vulnerable sector) required.
- Knowledge of BC Residential Tenancy Act and health/safety regulations is a plus.
- Physically fit and able to handle lifting, bending, and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
Pay: $23.50-$26.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Flexible schedule
Work Location: In person
