Clinical Assistant (International Medical Graduate / Internationally Trained Physician Preferred)

The Sharbot Lake Family Health Team is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Assistant to join our interdisciplinary primary care team.

This is a unique pilot position designed to support our physicians while providing an opportunity for an International Medical Graduate (IMG) or Internationally Trained Physician (ITP) to utilize their clinical knowledge and gain valuable experience within the Ontario healthcare system.

Working closely with our physicians, Nurse Practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, and administrative team, the Clinical Assistant will play an integral role in improving patient flow, supporting clinical decision-making, and enhancing the overall efficiency of our practice.

Position Summary

Working under the supervision of the clinic physicians, the Clinical Associate will provide clinical and administrative support that enhances physician capacity while contributing to safe, high-quality patient care.

This is an evolving role, and responsibilities will be tailored to the successful candidate's qualifications, demonstrated competencies, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

- Reviewing laboratory, imaging, and consultation reports and preparing charts for physician review
- Assisting with medication renewal workflows, including review of patient histories, laboratory monitoring, and documentation for physician approval
- Completing comprehensive chart reviews and identifying preventative care opportunities
- Gathering patient histories and performing preliminary clinical assessments under physician direction
- Preparing clinical documentation, referrals, requisitions, forms, and correspondence




- Supporting chronic disease management and preventative care initiatives
- Assisting with patient education and follow-up coordination
- Collaborating with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to improve workflow and patient access
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives and clinical process development
- Performing additional delegated clinical activities appropriate to demonstrated competence and physician supervision

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who:

- Hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree obtained outside Canada
- Are pursuing, or intend to pursue, Canadian medical licensure (including Practice Ready Ontario)
- Demonstrate strong clinical assessment and medical decision-support skills
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Are comfortable working in an interdisciplinary team environment
- Have experience with electronic medical records (Telus PS Suite experience is considered an asset)
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail

This position may be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis (approximately 3–5 days per week), depending on the successful candidate and organizational needs.
