About the Role

The Controller will play a key role in helping Top 40 improve profitability, inventory management, labour productivity, project margin performance, cash conversion, and operational reporting. This position is expected to be an active business partner to ownership and operational leaders, helping identify opportunities for improvement and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership, Business Improvement & Strategic Analysis

o Develop and monitor operational KPIs related to inventory turns, labour productivity, project performance, backlog, working capital, and cash flow.

o Provide analysis and recommendations to ownership and leadership to improve profitability, operational efficiency, and overall business performance.

o Evaluate trends, risks, and opportunities across manufacturing, project management, and installation operations.

o Work with production leadership to improve inventory accuracy, inventory turnover, labour utilization, and manufacturing performance.

o Analyze material consumption, production costs, and throughput trends to identify opportunities for improvement.

o Provide visibility into manufacturing costs, labour productivity, and operational profitability.

Project & Construction Performance

o Monitor project profitability throughout the project lifecycle and provide early identification of margin erosion, cost overruns, and project risks.

o Support Project Managers with financial reporting, forecasting, and project performance analysis.

o Develop reporting that improves accountability and visibility into project outcomes.

ERP, Reporting & Continuous Improvement





o Lead business process improvement initiatives that improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making.

o Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, approval workflows, internal controls, and reporting processes.

Accounting & Compliance

o Ensure compliance obligations are met while maintaining a practical focus on supporting operational performance and business growth.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role will be measured by the ability to:

o Improve inventory turns, working capital efficiency, and cash conversion.

o Provide leadership with timely, actionable information that supports better operational and strategic decisions.

o Help drive measurable improvements in profitability through stronger operational reporting and financial analysis.

Qualifications

o CPA designation required.

o Experience as a Controller, Senior Controller, Director of Finance, or equivalent accounting leadership role.

o Strong background in manufacturing, construction, project accounting, or other job-costed environments.

o Solid understanding of job costing, WIP, progress billings, holdbacks, change orders, inventory controls, payroll, and margin analysis.

o Advanced Excel, financial analysis, reporting, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.

o Experience with ERP implementation, optimization, or process improvement; Sage 50 and/or Innergy experience is an asset.

o Experience developing KPI dashboards, SOPs, internal controls, and reporting systems within an owner-managed business is beneficial.

Compensation

$100,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications, plus profit sharing, benefits, and professional development opportunities.
