Our business also focuses on construction specialties such as; underground service installation, rock blasting (by Georgian Rock Company Limited, a division of Hall Construction), granular placement, grading, culverts and structures. Position Title: Operator I
Reports To: Project Supervisor
Hours: 50 hours + per week
A Operator I has had previous experience operating heavy civil construction equipment in finishing or fine grading operations. The Operator I may have had extensive experience with any of the following equipment; 20+ ton Excavators; Dozers; Graders, and pavers. The Operator I reports directly to the on-site Supervisor and is responsible for the quality,
and safe operation and maintenance of the equipment assigned to them by the Foreperson/Supervisor. At times, must be able to work with little or no supervision. The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to;
- Abide by all company policies, procedures.
- Maintain a positive attitude and the reputation of Hall Construction Inc.
- Engage in safe operation of the equipment to complete the tasks as assigned.
- Able to operate and maintain the equipment fit for use and to identify maintenance issues or safe operation limitations. Overall care and cleanliness of the equipment a must.
- Ensures proper use of equipment and immediately notify supervisor of any mechanical failure or problem of equipment.
- Adheres to and ensures constant compliance with Health & Safety Compliance and regulations. Including the proper use of personal protective Equipment (PPE). This includes, skin, face, hand and foot protection in a multiple number of combinations.
- Works in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions: including heat and cold while wearing various levels of personal protective equipment.
- Able to work in and around above ground and underground utilities, space limitations, common core trained to work in pits and quarry sites, and confident to work around traffic and with exposure to the public.
- When working without direct supervision the Operator I is responsible for creating accurate, detailed daily timesheets and ensures the daily submission of documents to head office, and for directing and overseeing any assisting labour staff.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management and will be required by the needs of Hall Construction business, including, but not limited evening and weekend work, etc.
- Maintain any company sites, tools, vehicles and equipment assigned in a clean, orderly state, ensure that garbage is containerized and disposed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Valid drivers license required as a continuing condition of employment
- Maintain a clean driving record
- 4+ years of previous construction experience, with a focused piece of equipment
- OSHA based Training an asset
- Common Core Training an asset
Required knowledge and understanding:
- Knowledge of construction and construction practices
- Knowledge of materials, pipe, aggregates etc.
- Knowledge of MTO regulations as they pertain to truck usage, hauling and floating
- General layout and survey knowledge and asset (laser level etc.)
Abilities:
- Computer/Tablet/Smart phone skills
- Attention to detail
- Able to take and comply with directions
- Able to perform multiple tasks
- Able to travel, work weekends
- Available for 24/day on-call basis
Physical Requirements:
This position involves regular physical exertion. Positions constantly requires sitting, standing, lifting up to 50lbs., pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping and crouching. Frequently requires walking, climbing, speaking, listening, color determination and clarity of vision at 4 feet or more (with or without lenses). Requires the ability to properly wear and use forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) and specialized PPE which may be required from time to time.
