About Barrier Group
Barrier Group is an integrated industrial service provider delivering coating, pipeline, fabrication, construction, and maintenance solutions to the oil and gas sector across Western Canada. From our headquarters in Stony Plain and our operations in Red Deer, we combine skilled trades, advanced equipment, and a safety-first culture to help our clients keep their assets protected and running. Our field and tank coating teams handle abrasive blasting and protective coating applications for new and existing pipeline, facility, and tank work — and we invest continuously in our people so they can uphold the highest safety and quality standards.
The Prospect
We are looking for an Estimator / Project Manager to join our Industrial Coating team. In this dual-focused role you will own projects from the initial bid through to completion — preparing accurate estimates and quotes, then managing the crews, schedules, materials, and client relationships that bring those projects to life. It is an ideal fit for someone with 3–5 years of estimating or project coordination experience in industrial coating, sandblasting, painting, or a related industrial trade who is ready to take ownership of both the numbers and the field execution.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Business Development
- Review project specifications, drawings, and site conditions to prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for industrial coating, abrasive blasting, and painting scopes.
- Develop competitive bids and quotations, including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and mobilization costs.
- Perform material take-offs and calculate surface areas, coating coverage rates, and consumables.
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid walkdowns to assess scope, access,
and safety considerations.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and suppliers to identify and secure new work.
- Track bid outcomes and maintain estimating records to refine pricing and win rates.
Project Management & Execution
- Plan, schedule, and manage coating projects from award through completion, ensuring work is delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.
- Coordinate field crews, equipment, and materials, and act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project.
- Monitor project costs, productivity, and progress; prepare progress reports, change orders, and invoicing documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with coating specifications, applicable industry standards (e.g., NACE/SSPC, AMPP), and manufacturer requirements.
- Champion Barrier Group's safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to all health, safety, and environmental policies and site-specific requirements.
- Manage project close-out, including documentation, quality records, and client sign-off.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in estimating and/or project management within industrial coating, sandblasting, painting, pipeline, or a related industrial field.
- Solid understanding of protective coating systems, surface preparation, and application methods.
- Familiarity with coating and corrosion standards (NACE/SSPC/AMPP) is a strong asset.
- Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Strong estimating, budgeting, and cost-control skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and estimating or project software.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and client-relationship skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites across Western Canada as required.
- Applicable safety certifications (e.g., CSTS, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance, First Aid) considered an asset or obtainable upon hire.
- Post-secondary education in engineering technology, construction management, a related trade, or equivalent field experience.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive health and dental benefits package.
- Employer-supported retirement savings (RRSP) program.
- Ongoing training and professional development in a company that invests in its people.
- Stable, full-time employment with a growing and respected industrial service provider.
- A safety-focused, team-oriented work environment based out of our Stony Plain operations.
