The Waterdown Farmers’ Market (hosted by the Waterdown Business Improvement Area) is a busy, vibrant weekly community hub where engaged farm, food and craft vendors, local businesses and visitors sell, shop and connect on Saturday mornings from the end of May until mid-October.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and level-headed go-getter to assist and help lead weekly market operations as the second-in-command to the Farmers’ Market Manager.
Does this sound like you?
- You are an event logistics champion, understanding set-up and teardown procedures like the back of your hand.
- You can pop up and disassemble tents, tables, signage and other market equipment in a flash while always maintaining safety measures and being acutely aware of your surroundings and changing conditions.
- You are a strong leader and coach, able to direct junior crew and market volunteers.
- You love a varied workday, going from market set-up to assisting with fundraising and special events, interacting with market visitors, supporting vendors and/or leading activities in the children’s tent.
- You have a demonstrated interest in, and knack for creating and posting social media content.
- You can trouble-shoot, problem solve and remain calm under pressure – helping to identify issues or areas for improvement and managing in office decisions when the Farmers’ Market Manager is unavailable or absent.
- You possess a passion for supporting local agriculture, small businesses and community development.
Bonus if you have knowledge of food safety regulations.
- You pride yourself on having a ‘can-do’, hospitality-focused attitude.
- You pick up on new areas quickly and are excited to learn as you go.
- You are a self-starter who will lead by example.
- You hold or are willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
- You can lift 55lbs on a consistent basis (pop up tents weigh approx. 55 lbs).
- You enjoy working outdoors, in all weather. Our market is rain or shine.
- You like contributing to a team in-person. This is not a remote position.
What’s in it for you?
- A chance to apply and grow your event management, leadership and communication skills in a fun, energetic and inclusive environment.
- Pride in being part of a community-building team.
- A sense of accomplishment contributing to a vibrant weekly event.
