2026-088 TFT Peer Environmental Service Worker, External

Job Summary:

This Peer Environmental Service Worker performs custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties to ensure that the Agency’s property is maintained in a healthy, protected and sanitary manner. The incumbent will provide side by side intervention, coaching and encouragement to assist individuals in gradually building independence in maintaining a clean and safe living environment.

Working collaboratively with individuals, team members, and community stakeholders, the incumbent will lead by championing the sanitation of the community and work alongside individuals, building knowledge, skills, and confidence for household management skills and hygiene in their living space. All services are provided in accordance with the mission and established protocols of the Agency and the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation.

There are a number of specialty Peer Environmental Service Worker roles, supporting clients across multiple programs at the Agency. Further information on this variation of the role:

Comprehensive Integrated (CI) Housing – works as part of the CI Housing team to maintain a healthy,



safe and sanitary environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Completion of secondary school diploma
- Certificate or diploma in the area of environmental services, preferred
- Two years of relevant environmental services experience
- Experience working with individuals who live with a serious mental illness or addiction, dual diagnosis or concurrent disorder, in a community setting preferred
- Certification in First Aid and CPR, an asset
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, an asset
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training, an asset
- WHMIS training, an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Demonstrated knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment
- Demonstrated ability to understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products
- Ability to utilize own personal, practical experience, self-knowledge and first-hand insight to benefit clients and team members
- Knowledge of and ability to incorporate best practices in community support for individuals living with a serious mental illness
- Demonstrated decision-making skills
- Ability to effectively utilize community resources and supports to meet the needs of individuals




- Ability to work under pressure within a changing environment
- Knowledge of the Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, and other relevant legislation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively engage community services and individuals, increasing awareness of services
- Well-developed problem-solving, prioritization and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Basic proficiency in computer skills; MS Office preferred
- Ability to work rotating days, evenings and weekends
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have regular access to a reliable vehicle and provide proof of adequate vehicle insurance
- Required to provide a satisfactory criminal reference check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector screen prior to hire
- French Language proficiency considered an asset
