Job Overview

The Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for the precise and efficient splicing of optical fiber. This position involves installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks to guarantee seamless connectivity and operational efficiency.

This is a safety sensitive position. A pre-employment drug and alcohol test will be required. Employees are also subject to ongoing testing in accordance with company policies and client requirements.

This position is based out of Edmonton.

Responsibilities

- Perform optical fiber splicing, termination, and testing activities.
- Troubleshoot and rectify fiber optic network issues promptly.
- Utilize special equipment, such as fusion splicers and OTDRs, to maintain optimal network performance.
- Install rack and Equipment such as switches, Splitter, ONT, Fiber Panel and Trays.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols during all splicing activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of splicing records and network configurations.
- Participate in on-call rotations for emergency repairs and maintenance.
- Documentation and Labelling.
- Other job-related duties as required.

Requirements

- Minimum 3+ years of experience in Fiber Optic industry construction, maintenance,



troubleshooting.
- Experience and knowledge with both Single and Mass Fusion splicing.
- Experience with Patch Panels, Transition cabinets and Fiber enclosures.
- Experience with OTDR, fusion splicers, and other testing equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Understanding of fiber optic colour code/binders and connector types.
- Knowledge of GPON Networks FTTH/P.
- Knowledge of fiber optic enclosure (FOSC) assembly.
- Understanding of Network Plan, Splice Schematics/Design, and blueprint.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally.
- Corning CFI certification (desirable).
