The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Senior Protection & Control Testing Technician/Technologist to join our team.
In this role, you will test and commission protection & control systems, relays, SCADA, and MV/HV electrical infrastructure from construction through energization.
If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, using advanced testing equipment, and collaborating with experienced commissioning professionals, this role offers meaningful technical work and continuous professional growth.
This is a field-based position with travel to project sites across Canada on a 14/7 rotation.
What You'll Do:
- Test and commission MV/HV protection & control schemes across utility, power generation, industrial, and infrastructure projects
- Perform secondary relay injection testing using advanced relay test equipment including Omicron CMC356 and CMC500
- Conduct SCADA point testing and system verification
- Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning and startup
- Prepare and submit detailed commissioning reports
- Assist with the development of commissioning procedures and work instructions
- Communicate with clients to address technical inquiries, discuss issues, and confirm resolutions
- Ensure compliance with corporate, client, and industry safety standards
Requirements
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Electrician Journeyman Ticket, or Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma from a recognized institute
- 4+ years of protection & control relay testing experience within the electrical utilities industry
- Hands-on experience with advanced relay test sets (e.g., Omicron CMC356, CMC500).
- Ability to work extended rotations and travel to project sites as required
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications
- Proven analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving abilities
Candidates must be legally authorized to work for any employer in Canada. Background checks and Drug & Alcohol testing will be required as part of employment, and candidates must possess a valid driver's licence with a clean abstract.
Expected annual earnings: $165,000–$225,000, inclusive of base salary and overtime (actual earnings may vary based on experience and project requirements.)
