Commercial Paving is a well-established asphalt paving company based in Calgary, with more than 40 years of experience serving the local construction industry. We are currently seeking a skilled and dependable Asphalt Rakeman to join our paving crew.

This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must have previous asphalt paving experience and be confident working around active paving equipment, following grades, shaping edges, and helping produce a smooth, skilled finished surface.

The successful candidate will report to our Calgary shop each morning and may be responsible for transporting equipment, tools, or company vehicles to and from the jobsite. A valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation are required.

Responsibilities

- Rake, spread, level, and shape hot-mix asphalt to the required grade and thickness
- Correct low spots, high spots, seams, joints, and surface imperfections
- Ensure edges, curbs, tie-ins, transitions, and confined areas are properly finished
- Work closely with the paver operator, roller operators, labourers, and foreman
- Follow grades, work orders, project specifications, and foreman instructions
- Assist with handwork in areas that cannot be completed by paving equipment
- Safely work around pavers, rollers, skid steers, trucks, and other heavy equipment
- Load, unload, organize, and transport tools and equipment when required
- Maintain the cleanliness of tools, equipment, company vehicles, and work areas
- Complete daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns




- Follow all company policies, safe-work procedures, and jobsite requirements
- Assist with general paving and construction duties as required

Qualifications

- Previous asphalt paving and rakeman experience is required
- Strong understanding of asphalt grades, elevations, joints, edges, and finishing techniques
- Ability to identify and correct surface deficiencies before compaction
- Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record
- Ability to safely operate company vehicles and mobilize equipment when required
- Physically capable of performing demanding outdoor work for extended periods
- Comfortable working in hot temperatures and changing weather conditions
- Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail
- Ability to take direction and work cooperatively as part of a paving crew
- Safety-conscious and able to remain alert around moving equipment
- Willingness to work long hours, early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends during the paving season

Job Types: Permanent, Full-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
