Reports to: Chief Executive and Financial Officer

About the Opportunity

Under the general supervision of the Chief Executive & Financial Officer, the Finance Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the Nation's financial systems operate efficiently and effectively, enabling excellent and timely financial support across the organization. The primary focus of this position is accounting and the many varied tasks that support it, including budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, and records management. The Finance Supervisor must be able to provide a breakdown of costs and services across administration, program services, and government invoices at any time. Accuracy, promptness, punctuality, and initiative are essential to this role.

What You'll Do

- Lead budget development, forecasting, and maintenance, and support other departments with budgeting as needed.
- Review and verify all financial activity, including administration, program services, coding and tracking of invoices, accounts payable/receivable, month-end procedures, bank reconciliations, and CRA remittances.
- Complete bank deposits and reconcile bank statements monthly.




- Assist with the annual audit and promptly resolve any issues identified by auditors.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for Chief and Council and reports to the Director on program expenditures as requested.
- Create journal entries and reconcile account codes used for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Provide staff management, oversight, and mentorship to the finance team, including recruiting, training, coaching, and disciplinary processes as required.
- Ensure month/quarter/year-end processes are completed on time to support accurate financial reporting and records management.
- Meet ISC reporting requirements, including breakdowns of cost and services by administration, program services, and invoices.
- Work collaboratively with staff, government officials, and auditors, and provide coverage for other finance team members as needed.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with vendors, funders, financial institutions, and government financial staff.
- Take on other finance-related duties as assigned by the Finance Director.

What You Bring

- 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including some supervisory or leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting procedures, payroll, and financial reporting requirements.




- Knowledge and work experience with accounting/financial management software.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office products, particularly Excel.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Experience supervising or mentoring staff, with strong coaching and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent accuracy, organization, and initiative, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to a range of audiences.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage competing demands effectively
- Demonstrated respect, empathy, and professionalism when working with clients, colleagues, and community members.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment at all times.

Assets (Preferred, Not Required)

- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is an asset.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or progress toward one.
- Fluency in the Cree language is an asset.
- Experience working within First Nations governance, finance, or administration.
- Familiarity with ISC funding and reporting requirements.
