Position Overview
TAC Sports is seeking a full-time Chess Instructor to lead an engaging and interactive summer camp program for children who enjoy strategy, problem-solving, and academic challenges. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, has a passion for learning and critical thinking, and can create a fun, supportive, and inspiring camp environment.
The Chess Instructor position is designed for curious and motivated young minds who love to think, plan, and solve problems. Through a dynamic mix of chess, strategic games, brain teasers, and hands-on math activities, campers build logic, focus, creativity, and confidence while developing valuable critical-thinking skills in a collaborative setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead chess class sessions in a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate environment
- Teach and support activities focused on chess, strategic thinking, logic, problem-solving, and math-based learning
- Guide campers through brain teasers, games, and interactive challenges that promote focus, creativity, and confidence
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship,
and positive participation during both individual and group activities
- Adapt activities and instruction to suit different ages, abilities, and learning styles
- Supervise campers throughout activities, transitions, and breaks to ensure safety and positive behaviour
- Assist with daily camp setup, cleanup, material preparation, and activity organization
- Build positive relationships with campers, families, and TAC Sports staff
- Follow TAC Sports’ program plans, safety procedures, and child supervision standards at all times
- Help create a inspiring and encouraging environment where campers can celebrate growth and achievement
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in camps, education, recreation, tutoring, or youth programs
- Interest in chess, math, strategy games, or problem-solving activities
- Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
- Energetic, patient, and confident leading groups in a camp or classroom-style setting
- Ability to make learning interactive, accessible, and enjoyable for children
- Background in education, recreation, mathematics, child development, or a related field is an asset
- First Aid/CPR certification and Vulnerable Sector Check, or willingness to obtain them, preferred
