West Coast Pre Fab Ltd. (“WCPF”) is a leading mechanical contractor in the industrial construction and maintenance sector, offering project and maintenance services to facilities across western Canada from its headquarters in Chemainus, Vancouver Island.

If there are questions we're happy to answer them. The position is to provide high precision surveying, mechanical technical support, and planning to industrial clients. Primary tasks will be collecting alignment and dimensional data to ensure the optimal performance and precision of customer equipment .

The position combines both the opportunity for consistent office work during regular hours and well compensated 24/7 survey support. Industrial geomatics/survey is typically dayshifts but could be anytime and anywhere in BC.

Typical Duties:

Survey/Geomatics - Use of survey total station, optical theodolite and optical level to layout for construction and measure for precise machinery positioning. Alignment and level of precision equipment such as compressors and pumps. Noting information carefully, accurately, and clearly for presentation to clients.

Drafting - Ability to clearly layout thoughts and metrological data is required. All work is presented through detailed Technical Service Reports provided to the client.



CAD experience is an asset but we have a drafting team to support.

Project Coordination/Estimation – assist with coordinating and estimating mechanical and survey jobs with the project team.

Mechanical – Diagnose mechanical and alignment issues and recommend corrective solutions. Oversee corrective maintenance and alignment procedures.

Reporting – Writing clear and concise technical reports to communicate the position or condition of equipment. Templates can be used and are typically a few pages in length.

Sales – Technicians are very important parts of our sales teams. You will build relationships with clients and call on them for upcoming work.

Education:

Flexible – College, trade-school or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 4 years, or experience more 10 years in industry.

BC program examples: Geomatics Engineering Technology, Geomatics Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology. Mech/Civil BSC in Eng or BEng considered.

Skills:

Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment, opportunity to grow and diversify company offerings by assisting sales staff. Driven to expand their role and hunt for work.





Strong and demonstrable skills in spreadsheets, word processing and computer file organization.

Good organizational and interpersonal communications skills.

Attention to details, measurements 0.001” and proper care of scientific instruments.

Work is minimally supervised, and goals are solutions rather than process oriented. Judgement and drive are critical and are rewarded.

Aptitude for safe and considerate work. Conform to many different sites with strict safety rules. Thoughtful of personal hazards and desire to accomplish the tasks efficiently in potentially dangerous environments.

Position:

Full-time 40 hours per week

60% office setting (Monday-Friday, in-person, in Chemainus BC), 40% industrial/manufacturing sites (anytime)

Compensation at industry levels depending on experience and education

Paid travel and expenses when away

Health/dental benefits following probation period

Travel in BC as required, satisfactory driver’s abstract, current driver’s license, able to fly if necessary.

Work in industrial facilities can be indoors and out, climbing ladders and entering confined spaces. Conditions can be hot/humid buildings, airborne contaminates/gasses, large and loud rotating equipment. Proper procedures and PPE are provided.

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
