About this Opportunity

Location:

· This role will require the applicant to work with clients in-person.

· Specific locations for in-person work include our Waterloo centre (15 Willow Street, Waterloo). Providing service virtually or in home and community-based locations in the Waterloo Region (Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge) and surrounding areas, and may also be required on an as-needed basis.

Job Type and Schedule:

· Please note that this is an hourly position, and there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Your caseload will inform your weekly schedule.

· We will work with you to build a caseload that will inform your weekly schedule, providing you with a predictable schedule and reliable income. You must be available for regular hours of operation, spread out across weekday mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

Compensation and Perks: per hour

· Instructor Therapists are paid at an hour rate, according to their position, related full years of work experience, and job qualifications.

· There are two levels of Instructor Therapists:

o Instructor Therapist (Level 1) - Primarily works in-centre, with occasional work as directed in-home or at other locations

o Instructor Therapist (Level 2) - Works a blended schedule in-centre and in-home

· Retention bonus incentives offered at the end of your first and second year of employment.

· Eligible for all employment standards defined in the Employment Standards Act (including but not limited to Employment Insurance, Canadian Pension Plan, holiday pay, vacation pay, and unpaid leaves of absence).

· A Declaration of Conditions of Employment (T220 E 15) form may be submitted for approval annually, to deduct a variety of employment expenses.

· Full time employees enrolled in a private health service plan (PHSP) through Brock Health Administration Ltd., after completing a satisfactory 3-month probationary review.

· Supervision available for those working towards their BCBA certification or registration with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).

More About You

The role of ‘Instructor Therapist’ includes a variety of direct and indirect responsibilities and tasks,



related to the practice of Applied Behaviour Analysis, as defined as “the implementation and delivery of interventions derived from the principles of behaviour in order to produce meaningful improvements” (Psychology and Applied Behaviour Analysis Act, 2021). Specific areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

Assessment and Service Planning

- Assist with collecting data to assess and monitor client skills/progress and the effectiveness of therapy
- Conduct preference assessments
- Provide feedback to the Behaviour Analyst(s) regarding short-term and long-term goals for clients, based on their unique needs and strengths

Direct Therapy Tasks

- Provide direct ABA Therapy (in person and virtually) to children and adolescents aged 2 to 17, and adults 18+ under the supervision of a Registered Behaviour Analyst
- Work with a wide range of client ages and profiles, including neurodiverse clients from 2-18+ years old, including members of their family (ex. parents, siblings)
- Implement ABA interventions with high procedural fidelity, including skill-based treatment (SBT) procedures and Universal Protocols, generalization and maintenance procedures
- Collect data using continues and discontinuous measurement procedures
- Work with clients to manage challenging or escalated behaviour, and teach more appropriate replacement skills
- Assist with activities of daily living that align with therapy goals (ex. toileting, feeding etc.)
- Assist with family/caregiver training and parent coaching and consultations, as needed
- Participate in direct supervision from the supervising Behaviour Analyst, ranging from weekly to monthly observations during regularly scheduled sessions

Indirect Therapy Tasks

- Assist with preparing or gathering materials necessary for ABA interventions being implemented
- Complete a variety of assigned prep tasks and relevant professional development (PD) when a session is cancelled, working with the Behaviour Analyst(s) to ensure completion

Team Member Training and Feedback

- Participate in Behaviour Skills Training (BST) when new skills/interventions are introduced
- Receive verbal and written, positive and constructive, feedback and incorporate this feedback into sessions
- Provide verbal and written, positive and constructive, feedback to the senior clinical team when appropriate

Essential for the Role:

œ At least of experience working with children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

œ At least of experience providing ABA Therapy

œ Experience working with a wide range of client ages and profiles, including neurodiverse clients from 2-18+ years old and members of their family (ex. parents, siblings)

œ Introductory knowledge of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other behaviour-based approaches to counselling and mental health is considered an asset





œ Basic knowledge and application of skill-based treatment (SBT) procedures and Universal Protocols is considered an asset

œ Appropriate use, of and competency with relevant technology (ex. Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Drive, Google Docs and Sheets, Apple products such as iPads and Macs), and the ability to learn to use practice management software (ex. Clockify)

œ Able to provide own laptop and smartphone, and ensure access to Microsoft Word, for business use in accordance with our ‘Cell Phone Use and Bring Your Own Device Policy’

You will be asked to provide proof of the following:

œ 2 professional references

œ Completion of an Autism and Behavioural Science program, similar post-secondary or post-graduate course sequence, or a 40-hour RBT course recognized by the BACB

œ Police Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within 6 months)

œ Professional liability insurance

œ Full vaccination against COVID-19 (2 doses)

œ First Aid and CPR Training

œ Valid crisis management certification is considered an asset (preferences given to those with experience with Safe Management Training)

œ Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle, with two-million-liability car insurance
