General Description:
The Career Services Advisor provides career support and advising to the students and alumni at FDU Vancouver Campus while also supporting the administrative and operational needs of the Department of Career Services.
Duties will also include support for campus career related events, and support to the internship program and career portal, while maintaining a proactive and energetic rapport with all stakeholders including students, staff, and external industry partners.
Supervision Received:
The Career Services Advisor reports to the Manager of Career Services and receives supervision concerning objectives to be achieved. The incumbent is expected to work independently and collaboratively on daily tasks and special projects, as well as collaborate with other key internal and external constituent groups.
Principal Duties:
1. Conducts student and alumni individualized advising sessions for resume and cover letter editing, interview skills coaching, networking, job searching, career exploration and business etiquette coaching.
2. Prepares and updates online and on-campus job notice boards and ensures that students and staff are informed of job postings and volunteering postings as well as external industry events aligned with FDU Vancouver programs.
3. Facilitates Career Services workshops and webinars as needed. Collaborates with faculty to integrate career services into the classroom, including class visits to promote events and resources, coordinating in class workshops with relevant instructors, and maintaining ongoing relationships with core courses to support career readiness content.
4. Build relationships with external partners to collaborate on events, strengthen employment opportunities for FDU students and alumni as well as strengthen brand awareness.
5. May compose routine correspondence and other material independently or based on guidelines provided and requiring knowledge of office procedures and practices and/or specialized terminology.
6. Contributes to career related marketing and social media communications.
7. Updates appointment booking system and builds reports on appointments and events through FDU’s internal CRM.
8. Assists in data collection for career services statistics analysis, and internship registration records.
9. Assists with the coordination and execution of Career Services events, i.e., career fairs, job fairs, networking and employer events, alumni receptions, etc.
10. Reviews, updates, and develops career-related resources and toolkits, ensuring materials remain current and accessible in both physical (resource board) and digital formats, and creating new resources to address emerging student needs and labor market trends.
11. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Assists with the supervision of department interns and student workers.

2. Use effective communication skills and judgment in all contact with faculty, students, staff members, and external stakeholders.
3. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with effective practices of cross-cultural awareness.
4. Must be able to perform duties without direct or immediate supervision and work on a diversity of projects simultaneously, using independent judgment and discretion.
5. Ability to independently compose correspondence and other materials, and handle correspondence/reports with a very high level of accuracy.
6. Must be well organized, results oriented, and able to set priorities and manage time efficiently.
7. Maintains strict confidentiality of student records, advising session content, appointment data, and internship/employment records in accordance with FDU policy and applicable privacy legislation. Exercises discretion when discussing student matters with faculty, employers, or external partners, and share information only on a need-to-know basis.
8. Position may require occasional evening or weekend hours to support career fairs, employer / alumni events, as well as periodic travel between campus and event locations or employer site visits.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. A minimum of 1 year experience in client career advising, vocational coaching, or related experience required, preferably in an academic or educational setting.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills and outstanding interpersonal skills.
4. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
5. Proficiency in the use of computerized systems for word processing, spreadsheet, data management, e-mail, internet research, and other applications. High degree of competence with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bookings, SharePoint, OneNote). Familiarity with Canva and AI tools is a plus but not required.
6. Demonstrated ability to coordinate special projects.
7. Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
8. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
9. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check.
