Independent Foot Care Nurse (RN/RPN)

At Community Care Durham (CCD), coordinated networks of volunteers and inter-professional staff, working out of integrated community hubs and other locations, strive to enrich the well-being and quality of life for people wherever they choose to call home. As the largest community support services agency in Durham Region, CCD collaborates with its partners and the broader community to address community issues and support local citizens to achieve their goals to live independently.

CCD is seeking a Foot Care Nurse to provide basic foot care through our contracted services to eligible clients in community clinic settings in the Durham Region. The Foot Care Nurse will provide awareness regarding proper footwear, foot hygiene, and recognition of potential problems.

Foot Care Nurses are Independent Contractors and are required to provide their own rotary podiatry tools and ensure Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Standards.

Foot Care Clinics are held throughout Durham Region providing services to those who require assistance with foot care due to vision and mobility difficulties or for those who have diabetes. The goal is to provide basic foot care to CCD clients, and to encourage clients to receive assistance from their own physician when problems are identified that do not fall within the scope of the Foot Care Clinic.

The scope of practice has been set up to be completed in 15 minutes and includes the following:

- Removing corns
- Paring down calluses and heels




- Cutting nails
- Apply lotion or foot rub with lotion to encourage circulation
- Basic foot care monitoring

Qualifications required:

- College of Nurses (CNO) Registration in good standing with no restrictions
- Proof of Liability insurance as provided through the Registered Nursing Association of Ontario (RNAO) or Registered Practical Nursing Association of Ontario (RPNAO)
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check or Enhanced Police Information Check (within one year)
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (Standard First Aid/CPR)
- Basic and/or Advanced Foot Care Certification
- Nurses must provide their own rotary podiatry file. Cleaning, sterilizing supplies, gloves and masks are provided

Compensation: This is an independent contractor position with compensation based on the number of clients seen per clinic. Contractors are paid $10.50 per client, with each client appointment scheduled for 15 minutes, equaling $42.00 per hour. Clinics are scheduled with a minimum of seven clients.

Work Location: Clarington, Pickering, and Port Perry, ON.

Hours of Work: 8:30am – 3:00pm
