Class 1 Driver – Edmonton to Fort McMurray Linehaul

Oil City Express is currently seeking an experienced Class 1 Driver based in Edmonton, Alberta.

We are a family-owned Alberta transportation company specializing in LTL and dedicated freight throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Although we are Alberta-based, we are a federally regulated carrier, and all drivers are required to comply with applicable federal transportation and employment regulations.

Position Overview

This position primarily involves hauling freight between Edmonton and Fort McMurray using 53' dry van and 53' step deck trailers.

Most scheduled runs are overnight, departing Edmonton between 8:00 PM and Midnight, with arrivals in Fort McMurray between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM.

Work volume varies based on customer demand. While there is steady year-round work, there may not be a scheduled overnight linehaul run every night. Drivers are expected to be available for occasional expedited assignments as required.

Freight is generally pin-to-pin; however, some loads require live unloads, including deliveries to industrial sites north of Fort McMurray where occasional driver assistance may be required.

There are also periodic expedited loads to Elk Valley Resources (EVR) coal mines in the Sparwood, BC area. These shipments can be dispatched at any time of the day or night, including occasional weekends, depending on customer requirements.

Responsibilities

- Safely operate Class 1 tractors.
- Haul freight using 53' dry van and 53' step deck trailers.
- Secure loads in accordance with NSC regulations.
- Complete Electronic Logging Device (ELD)



records accurately and comply with all applicable Hours of Service regulations (will need to download ELD app onto your phone.)
- Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections.
- Deliver freight safely, professionally, and on schedule.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, receivers, and site personnel.
- Occasionally assist customers during live unloads when required.
- Represent Oil City Express professionally at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

- Valid Alberta Class 1 Driver's Licence.
- Minimum 3 years of verifiable Class 1 driving experience.
- Clean driver's abstract.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Experience using Electronic Logging Devices (ELD).
- Ability to operate a manual transmission.
- Strong understanding of Canadian Federal Hours of Service regulations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both spoken and written English. Many shipments require frequent communication with dispatch, customers, receivers, and industrial site personnel to coordinate deliveries and resolve issues.
- Ability to work overnight schedules and occasional weekend expedited assignments.
- Professional attitude with a strong commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and customer service.





Experience hauling both dry van and step deck trailers is considered a strong asset with good knowledge of flat deck load securement (straps and chains.)

Pre-Employment Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to:

- Provide a current driver's abstract.
- Provide three employment references from previous employers.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Successfully complete Oil City Express online orientation and safety training.
- Successfully complete required customer-specific orientation programs.
