Community Manager - SparkBlocks

Full-time · $25/hour · Open to remote workers. Squamish or Vancouver strongly preferred

Who we are

Block & Code Electronics is a small Canadian startup in Squamish, BC. We make SparkBlocks, a stem learning toy that teaches kids circuits using lego-compatible electronics. It’s a screen-free way to introduce meaningful STEM principals through creative play and families all across the globe really seem to be loving it!

Thanks to the viral success of this product, a real community has started forming around us. Our online followers are growing and our VIP Facebook group has 1000 active builders. Add thousands of past backers plus a growing crowd of parents, teachers, and grown-up tinkerers, and you've got a lot of people who love this thing and we need someone awesome to nurture and engage this community.

Company culture

We’re a small, passionate team dedicated to making high-quality, responsible STEM education accessible to everyone. We care deeply about our mission and are highly committed to our work, but we also hold a strong respect for work/life and family balance. Because we are a young company, we are still building our systems and defining our path, which means you’ll be joining a work-in-progress workplace where your initiative and ideas will have a direct impact.

The role

You'll own how SparkBlocks talks to the world and stays close to the people who love it. That means our social channels, our newsletter, our VIP group, and showing up in person when we run an event or share a booth at a conference. It's a hands-on job. You'll plan the posts and shoot the videos yourself, write the newsletter, answer the comments, and set up a build table at the local library on a Saturday.

You'll work directly with a small founder-run team, so nothing you make disappears into a machine. Your wins are the company's wins,

and everyone sees them.

What you'll do day to day

Social and content

- Run our Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. Plan it, post it, and stay on top of comments and DMs.
- Make the content yourself. Shoot and edit short videos of builds doing their thing, put together graphics in Canva, take clean product photos.
- Find the shot that makes someone stop scrolling. A little robot driving across the kitchen table sells this better than any caption about STEM ever will.
- Tell our story as we grow from a tiny startup with a dream to the world-wide standard for creative education.

Newsletter

- Own it from blank page to send button. Plan the story, write it, build it, ship it.
- Help us win back the roughly 13,000 warm leads from our Kickstarter days, and give current customers a reason to look forward to the next update or product release.

Community

- Be the familiar, friendly voice in our VIP Facebook group. Start conversations, cheer on what people build, answer the questions, keep the daily buzz going.
- Spot our most excited builders and turn them into ambassadors.
- Listen to what customers tell us and carry it back to the team.

Events and conferences

- Coordinate local events, anything from a library build day to a booth at a maker fair.
- Travel with us to conferences and trade shows. Build the booth, run the demo, talk to teachers and buyers, come home with leads and good stories.
- Back our push to reach STEM educators, camps, and homeschool families.

That group is becoming a big part of who we serve.

You might be a fit if

- You've spent one to three years running social accounts or an online community, ideally for something you actually cared about.
- You have an interest in STEM and wear your “nerd” badge proudly. You love learning new things and teaching others without ever talking down to them.
- You can make good content on your own. Comfortable shooting and editing short video on your phone, handy in Canva, a decent eye for a photo.
- You write like a person. Clear, warm, funny when it's earned.
- You can juggle. A content calendar, a newsletter, and a live event can all be going at once without anything slipping.
- You genuinely like people, and it shows in how you reply to a comment at nine at night.
- You're up for occasional travel to events and conferences.

Nice extras (not required)

- You know the brick-building, maker, or STEM-toy world from the inside.
- You've used an email platform like Klaviyo, or you'll pick one up fast.
- A little experience with paid social or reading basic analytics.
- You live in or near Squamish or Vancouver.
- You’re comfortable using AI tools responsibly.

The details

- Full-time, 40 hours a week.
- $25 an hour.
- We'd love someone in Squamish (home base) or Vancouver, close enough to jump into events and the odd in-person work day. We're open to remote candidates anywhere in Canada who are the right fit.
- Some travel for fun conferences and events.

How to apply

Send us your resume and links to a few things you've made: an account you've run, a video, a newsletter you helped ship. Point us at one piece of content you're proud of and tell us why.
