Willow Lodge, Home for Special Care is a 61-bed nursing home nestled in the quaint village of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. We are a vibrant active community and are currently seeking a Full time Recreation Programmer.
Position Overview:Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Recreation, the Recreation Programmer will be part of a dynamic team, working towards maximizing the abilities and well-being of residents living in a 61-bed long-term care home. The Recreation Programmer is mainly responsible for the overall planning, implementation and evaluation of programing that supports residents in meeting their physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. They will also work closely with several health care professionals such as RNs, LPNs, CCAs, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and support-services care partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate recreation programing in coordination with the care team.
- Assist the Director of Recreation in the implementation of special event programing.
- Complete documentation and contribute to ongoing resident care plans.
- Coordinate and support volunteers engaged in recreation and leisure programs.
Qualifications:
- NSCC Therapeutic Recreation diploma or bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or other related discipline; or Grade 12 or equivalent with willingness to complete continuing education.
- The completion of the Alzheimer's and other Dementia Care courses are considered an asset.
- Must hold up-to-date CPR certification & current criminal record and vulnerable persons sector check.
- Experience in long-term care is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and team working skills.
- Excellent time management and decision-making skills related to the care of the residents.
- The ability to manage numerous tasks in a long-term care setting with minimum supervision.
- Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
- Must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s license.
- May be required to work some holidays and weekends.
- Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
