Position Summary
The Yard Operations Assistant helps in maintaining the company fleet and equipment including plow, salt, and brine trucks plus various snow clearing equipment (ATVs, snow blowers). Work alongside the Fleet Manager to oversee fleet yard operations and maintenance. On salting and snow service nights, help ensure vehicles and equipment are properly loaded, fueled, and equipped for drivers to start their shift.

Compensation Range:
- $28 - $30/h depending on experience

Position Information:
- Must reside close to Abbotsford or Mission
- Sept 8 start date but flexible
- This is approximately a 6-month contract position that has a possibility of renewal every year for the right candidate. Ideal for those that have summer-focused work and are looking for an ongoing consistent winter focused position

- Expected hours are 30 – 60+ hours per week, depending on weather conditions and operational needs and will likely average to 40+ hours during the season
- Overtime + Night Shifts during the snow season will be required
- This position is moderately physical. There is extensive walking, standing, stooping, and bending





- Travelling to each location requires the safe operation of a vehicle

Day-to-day Duties:
- Ensure trucks are cleaned, operational and put away ready to go before and after salt and snow service runs
- Coordinate with the Fleet Manager to ensure the yard is clean, organized and presentable

- Miscellaneous handyman duties and projects

Duties on Salt / Snow Servicing Nights:

- Complete pre-snow event checklists to ensure trucks are ready to go out for their service route in full operating condition

- Efficiently dispatch drivers from the yard

- Coordinate with subcontractors for salt loading

- Fill trucks with salt/brine

- Address truck issues and repairs promptly, once all trucks are operational and on-site should a breakdown arise

- Communicate with the dispatch team for any additional needs

- Prepare the yard for the next shift (There will be a rotating shift between Yard staff during continued multi-day snow falls)

- Replenish salt/brine for our trucks running low while on shift

- Conduct quality control site checks on-sites, plow missed areas, conduct service calls and report to dispatch with progress of site completion

- Prepare the trucks for the next driver/shift in operational order

Requirements:
- Skid steer/bobcat experience (willing to teach the right motivated candidate)

- Mechanically inclined to perform minor repairs on trucks and equipment

- Reliable transportation during snow conditions
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors when necessary during snow/freezing conditions
- Must have a good attitude with an eager work ethic
- Willingness to learn how to drive salt/plow truck when needed
- Eager to take on new challenges and projects as our business expands

- Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds when needed

- Possess a Class 5 Driver License
- Honest, trustworthy, reliable, and a sense of humour!

Skills that will be a Bonus:
- Welding experience (Bonus)
- Snow Removal Experience (Bonus)
- Extensive mechanical experience, personal or professional - The opportunity for a mechanic apprenticeship is available

Job Types: Fixed term contract, Apprenticeship

Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour
