Position Summary

The Cultural Programmer works under the direction of the Program Specialist to develop, implement, and support culturally grounded programming for residents and participants. The primary focus of this position includes programming for Inuit, Inuvialuit, Dene, Metis as a primary focus. The cultural programmer will work across all Yellowknife Women Society programs, including but not limited to Spruce Bough, Temporary Transitional Housing (TTH), Housing First and the Women's Center. This position contributes to a trauma-informed, culturally safe, inclusive, and harm-reduction-focused environment that supports wellness, connection, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, implement, and support cultural programming that meets the needs of residents and participants across all program sites
- Understand unique programming needs of each site and develop programming that aligns with service delivery requirements
- Support program creation, start-up, planning, scheduling, delivery, and ongoing improvement.
- Lead the procurement and management of any related programming contracts
- Facilitate programming respectfully, including programming connected to cultures outside of one’s own lived experience, while seeking guidance, collaboration, and cultural accountability as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with staff to support trauma-informed, culturally safe, inclusive, and harm-reduction services.
- Engage respectfully with residents, participants, staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community partners, and service providers.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all residents and participants.
- Maintain accurate documentation, program notes, reports, attendance records, and updates as required.
- Support referrals, wellness planning, and participant engagement where appropriate to the role.
- Participate in meetings, training, community engagement activities, and program evaluation processes.

Qualifications

- Experience project management and oversight




- Experience in creating and delivering programs and activities to adults
- Experiencing in managing budgets and completing narrative and financial reports
- Experience working in housing, homelessness, women’s services, Indigenous organizations, social services, mental health, addictions, or non-profit settings is an asset.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, harm reduction, wellness planning, referrals, documentation, and community resources is an asset.
- Recent Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence is required.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Working Conditions

- Work may include office duties, program sites, meetings, community engagement, and occasional off-site activities.
- Flexibility may be required for programming, events, training, cultural activities, or urgent operational needs.
- The role may involve supporting individuals who have experienced trauma, crisis, homelessness, violence, mental health challenges, or substance use.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required depending on programming needs.
