A Different Kind of Private Practice
Ronin Psychotherapy is expanding our clinical team in Hamilton, and we are seeking an experienced therapist who wants to do thoughtful, meaningful work within a small and growing private practice.
The right person for Ronin is not defined by one therapeutic modality or a long list of certifications. We are looking for a clinician who has developed confidence in who they are as a therapist: someone who can build strong relationships with clients, think critically about what is happening beneath the presenting problem, and adapt their approach to the person in front of them.
Our intention is to build Ronin deliberately. We are not trying to become a high-volume clinic. We want to bring together a small number of excellent clinicians who value autonomy, depth, collaboration and the opportunity to help shape the culture of the practice as it grows.
Much of our work at Ronin falls within three primary areas:
Burnout & High-Pressure Lives
We work with professionals, leaders, entrepreneurs, parents and others who have become accustomed to carrying significant responsibility. Clients may arrive feeling exhausted, disconnected, anxious or dissatisfied despite appearing successful and capable from the outside.
Men's Mental Health
We provide a space for men to work through anxiety, relationships, anger, emotional disconnection, identity, fatherhood, career pressures, separation, loneliness, purpose and the challenges of navigating different stages of adult life.
Couples & Relationships
We work with couples and individuals experiencing communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, emotional distance, intimacy and sexuality concerns, betrayal, separation, changing family dynamics and other relationship challenges.
Across these areas, the work often extends into larger questions about identity, relationships, resilience, values, purpose and what someone wants the next part of their life to look like.
The Therapist We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced clinician who is comfortable working with adults and who brings maturity, curiosity and sound clinical judgment into the therapy room.
You should be comfortable with therapy that sometimes goes beyond symptom management. We want clinicians who are interested in understanding patterns, relationships, attachment, behaviour, values and the experiences that have shaped the person sitting across from them.
A strong candidate will be able to offer clients both compassion and appropriate challenge.
You can sit with difficult emotions without feeling compelled to immediately solve them. You know when to listen and when to ask the harder question. You recognize that evidence-based practice and genuine human connection belong in the same room.
Most importantly, you remain curious about people.
Clinical Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable:
- Individual psychotherapy with adults
- Couples and relationship therapy
- Men's mental health
- Burnout, workplace stress and career transitions
- Anxiety and emotional regulation
- Communication and interpersonal conflict
- Intimacy and sexuality
- Separation and divorce
- Grief, loss and major life transitions
- Identity, meaning and existential concerns
Training or experience with EFT/EFIT, attachment-based therapy, ACT, CBT, DBT-informed approaches, psychodynamic therapy, existential/humanistic therapy, narrative therapy, trauma-informed practice, mindfulness, or family/couples systems may all fit well within the practice.
We care less about having a specific collection of modality acronyms and more about whether you can explain how you understand a client and why you choose the interventions you use.
Experience Beyond Therapy Matters Too
Ronin values therapists who bring some life with them into the room.
Perhaps psychotherapy is your second career. Maybe you've worked in business, healthcare, education, leadership, technology or another profession. Perhaps you've built something, changed careers, raised a family, experienced significant transitions or simply accumulated enough life experience to understand that people and relationships rarely fit neatly into textbooks.
Those experiences don't replace clinical training, but they can make us better therapists.
We welcome clinicians whose professional and personal experiences have contributed to the perspective they bring to their work.
What We're Looking For Professionally
Applicants should:
- Be registered and in valuable standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO),
or hold another appropriate Ontario-regulated mental health designation
- Have experience providing psychotherapy to adults
- Carry appropriate professional liability insurance
- Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, ethics and professional boundaries
- Be comfortable practicing with a meaningful degree of independence
- Maintain timely and appropriate clinical documentation
- Provide inclusive and culturally responsive care
Experience providing couples or relationship therapy is particularly welcome.
What the Role Looks Like
This is a part-time independent contractor opportunity, beginning at approximately 8–12 clinical hours per week, with the potential to build a larger caseload over time.
The practice operates through a combination of in-person sessions in Hamilton and virtual psychotherapy.
Ronin provides the infrastructure required to support your practice, including clinical office space, Jane practice management and online booking, virtual care capability, website presence, and relevant marketing.
As Ronin develops, associates may also have opportunities to become involved in groups, workshops, writing, community initiatives and new clinical programming.
Why Ronin?
The philosophy behind Ronin is influenced by three ideas:
Resilience & Adaptability - developing the ability to respond to adversity and change without losing yourself in the process.
Integrity & Self-Discipline - understanding your values, accepting responsibility for the choices available to you, and increasingly aligning your life with what matters.
Purpose & Meaning - recognizing that therapy isn't always about eliminating something that's wrong. Sometimes it's about figuring out what comes next.
These ideas influence both the work we do with clients and the kind of practice we want to build. We value clinicians who are thoughtful rather than formulaic, confident without being rigid, and willing to continue learning throughout their careers.
Interested?
Send us your resume or CV along with a short introduction.
Instead of a traditional cover letter, we'd rather learn a little about you as a therapist.
Tell us:
What kind of clients or clinical work are you most drawn to, and why?
And:
What have you learned, professionally or personally, that has most influenced the therapist you've become?
We're interested in finding the right person, not simply filling available hours.
Pay: $90.00-$120.00 per hour
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Hamilton, ON (Hamilton District)
