Barista / Café Attendant (Part-Time)

Position Overview

We are looking for a strong, mature, and experienced Barista / Café Attendant to join our team. This is a part time position offering up to 28 hours per week, with weekend availability required.

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality beverages and food items while providing outstanding customer service in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. As the face of our café, you will engage with tourists, local regulars, and first-time visitors. You are dedicated to maintaining consistency in our food and beverage offerings and the experiences we provide, while also being a reliable member of the team to support our overall success and customer satisfaction.

General Duties

- Operate the espresso machine and other equipment to prepare high-quality and consistent beverages and food items.
- Prepare and serve alcoholic beverages to customers in accordance with established recipes, safety guidelines, and responsible alcohol service regulations.
- Understand our food and beverage offerings and effectively promote and sell them to customers.
- Support promotional efforts by providing information about products and services.
- Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting guests, answering inquiries, and addressing any concerns.
- Ensure accurate order taking and POS transactions.
- Maintain a clean serving and prep area, adhering to health, safety, and food handling standards.




- Monitor fridge temperatures regularly as instructed and take immediate corrective action if any readings fall outside the normal range.
- Regularly clean customer areas, including tables, the milk station, trash bins, and seating areas to ensure they meet our cleanliness standards.
- Monitor stock levels by checking shelves and cold cases inside and outside the café.
- Rotate stock and discount aged items to help reduce waste, recover value, and maintain profitability.
- Conduct frequent store laps to address any areas needing attention, including product placement, stock rotation, cleanliness, signage, and overall presentation.
- Complete daily Gumtree orders efficiently and accurately.
- Promote the café loyalty program.
- Educate customers about our composting and recycling programs.
- Accurately open and close the café to ensure a smooth transition for the next shift or day.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance as outlined in the staff handbook.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including safety and security protocols.

- Communicate effectively with team members, management, and regular customers, promptly addressing issues and escalating concerns when necessary.
- Reliable, dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently when required.

Requirements

- Minimum 3–4 years of experience in the food and beverage industry.
- Minimum 2 years of barista experience in a high-volume café environment.
- Food Safe Level 1.
- Serving It Right.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Must be available to work weekends.

Schedule

- Part-time position with up to 28 hours per week.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Required days will change with the season.
- Available to work important dates, events, and statutory holidays unless otherwise discussed in advance.
- Flexible and available to help cover shifts when needed.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.25-$20.00 per hour
