Job Summary

The Cleaning and Dietary Aide is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients recovering from illness, injury, or hospitalization, as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the common areas in Highly Supportive Housing. The role supports infection prevention practices, prepares nutritious meals, and assists with housekeeping duties to ensure a comfortable recovery environment. This position works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to promote client health, dignity, and well-being.

Responsibilities

Environmental Services

- Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, and staff areas according to established cleaning schedules
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces using approved cleaning products
- Collect, sort, and dispose of garbage, recycling, and biohazard waste following organizational policies
- Restock housekeeping and hygiene supplies
- Report maintenance concerns or safety hazards promptly
- Follow infection prevention and control (IPAC) standards at all times

Responsibilities Continued

Dietary Services

- Prepare and portion meals, snacks, and beverages according to approved menus
- Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, cultural, and therapeutic diets as directed
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, dining areas, and food preparation equipment
- Wash dishes and kitchen utensils using proper sanitation procedures
- Monitor food temperatures and maintain food safety standards
- Monitor inventory and notify supervisors when supplies require replenishment

Client Support

- Create a welcoming and respectful environment for clients




- Observe and report concerns related to client nutrition, cleanliness, or safety to clinical staff
- Respect client privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
- Assist with crisis situations as required during shift

Health and Safety

- Follow Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately
- Adhere to infection prevention and control practices
- Participate in emergency procedures, fire drills, and safety training
- Maintain accurate cleaning and temperature logs as required

Requirements

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Food Handler Certification
- Food Service Worker/Dietary Aide Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Management is an asset
- One-year experience in housekeeping, environmental services, food services, healthcare
- Experience in supportive housing, shelters, or long-term care is an asset
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
- A valid G drivers’ license with access to a reliable vehicle and permission to carry rider attached with 2-million-dollar liability
- Must possess a valid First Aid/CPR certification that does not expire within six (6) months of hire. If certification expires, the employee is responsible for all renewal costs
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset
- Narcan training is an asset
- Availability to work nights, weekends and holidays
- Strong attention to cleanliness and detail
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Compassionate, respectful, and client-centered approach
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 25 kg (55 lbs)
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning and food preparation tasks

Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

To ensure the safety of the individuals we serve,



all successful candidates for this position will be required to provide a Police Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Check from their local police service. A clear Vulnerable Sector Check is a condition of employment. Any prior convictions or offenses (outside the scope of the Vulnerable Sector Check) will be assessed in accordance with applicable privacy and human rights legislation. A criminal record may be considered in the hiring decision, in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code. Applicants will have the opportunity to discuss any relevant information once the check is requested.

- Exposure to cleaning agents, infectious illnesses, and bodily fluids while following appropriate safety protocols
- Fast-paced healthcare and supportive housing environment
- Working directly with individuals experiencing crisis, living roughly mental health, and addictions
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals
- May be exposed to infectious waste, communicable diseases, and other conditions
- May be exposed to environments that have cigarette smoke, drug paraphernalia or illegal substances
