Contract Duration

Successful candidate will complete a Manager in Training program through Fall 2026 before assuming the Contract Store Manager role. This is a 12–18 month maternity leave contract with the potential for future full-time opportunities based on performance and business needs.

Schedule

- Full-time (40 hours/week)
- Must be available days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Position Summary

The Contract Store Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operations while creating a positive, professional, and customer-focused environment where both team members and customers feel welcomed, supported, and valued.

Working in close partnership with the Training & Development Manager, this leader will champion accountability, consistency, and positive team culture while ensuring operational excellence across all areas of the business. The successful candidate will lead by example, coach with integrity, and foster a collaborative workplace built on trust, communication, and mutual respect.

Leadership Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Culture

- Foster a professional, respectful, and inclusive workplace where every team member feels valued.
- Build and maintain a positive team culture that promotes engagement, morale, accountability, and collaboration.
- Lead by example through professionalism, positivity, strong work ethic, and exceptional customer service.
- Coach, mentor, and develop a team of 5–6 Pet Specialists and one Inventory Lead.
- Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins with team members to provide coaching, recognition, and support.
- Address performance concerns promptly through respectful, direct conversations.
- Celebrate successes while encouraging continuous learning and growth.
- Resolve conflict professionally and maintain healthy working relationships throughout the store.
- Create an environment where team members feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and seeking support.

Partnership with the Training & Development Manager

The Store Manager will work closely with the Training & Development Manager to:

- Maintain consistent execution of all company standards and expectations.
- Support onboarding and training of new team members.
- Reinforce customer service standards through coaching and observation.




- Execute action plans developed during store visits.
- Communicate staffing concerns, performance opportunities, and operational needs proactively.
- Support succession planning by identifying and developing future leaders.
- Ensure all policies, procedures, and company initiatives are implemented consistently.

Customer Experience

- Create an exceptional customer experience during every visit.
- Lead from the sales floor and remain visible during peak business periods.
- Ensure every customer is greeted promptly and receives knowledgeable service.
- Coach the team to recommend solutions based on customer and pet needs.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Drive community engagement and represent Global Pet Foods positively.

Store Operations

Responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the store, including:

- Opening and closing procedures
- Cash management and deposits
- Scheduling and labour management
- Payroll approvals and attendance management
- Daily task delegation and follow-up
- Store presentation and merchandising
- Promotional execution
- Inventory accuracy
- Receiving shipments
- Stock replenishment
- Date checks and product rotation
- Store cleanliness and organization
- Loss prevention practices

Inventory Management

Working alongside the Inventory Lead, the Store Manager will:

- Maintain accurate inventory.
- Oversee cycle counts and annual inventory preparation.
- Monitor inventory discrepancies and investigate variances.
- Ensure receiving processes are completed accurately.
- Support shrink reduction initiatives.
- Maintain organized backroom standards.
- Ensure inventory tasks are completed on schedule.

Sales & Business Performance

- Drive achievement of sales and profitability goals.
- Monitor key performance indicators.
- Identify opportunities to improve sales and customer engagement.
- Encourage attachment selling and complete solution selling.
- Ensure promotions are executed accurately.
- Review store performance regularly and implement improvement plans.

People Management

Responsible for:

- Hiring and interviewing
- Onboarding new team members




- Performance coaching
- Performance documentation
- Recognition and engagement
- Scheduling
- Attendance management
- Time-off approvals
- Corrective action when required
- Team communication

Communication Expectations

The Store Manager is expected to:

- Communicate professionally and respectfully at all times.

- Keep the Training & Development Manager informed of operational challenges, staffing concerns, and significant customer issues.
- Respond promptly to communication from leadership.
- Foster transparent communication throughout the team.

- Previous retail leadership experience (pet specialty preferred).
- Strong coaching and people development skills.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Experience with scheduling, inventory management, and retail operations.
- Passion for customer service and developing high-performing teams.
- Available evenings and weekends as needed and to ensure crossover with all team members
