We are seeking a passionate and experienced Tutor / Learning Support Specialist to join our team in a part-time, contract capacity. Working out of our Whitby clinic, the successful candidate will provide individualized academic support in literacy, math, and other areas based on student need for learners aged 5–14. Many of our students are neurodiverse, so an inclusive, flexible, and compassionate approach is essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in classroom education and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for children. This role involves developing tailored educational strategies to support students' individual learning needs, enhancing their academic performance, and promoting their overall growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, 1:1 or small group tutoring sessions tailored to each learner's needs and learning style
- Support skill development in literacy, math, and other academic areas as required
- Create and adapt materials and lesson plans to support student progress
- Monitor student performance and track progress using simple tools or documentation, adjusting teaching methods as necessary
- Communicate regularly with families, educators and team members to support student goals and progress
- Collaborate with other educational professionals to enhance the overall learning experience
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (in Education or related field)
- Previous experience working with children in an educational setting
- Robust communication skills, both verbal and written
- A passion for education and a commitment to helping students succeed
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Preferred
- Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) designation
- Experience in tutoring or providing individualized instruction
- Experience supporting neurodiverse learners
- Background in classroom management and instructional strategies
- Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum expectations in literacy and math
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with educational technology tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Boom Cards)
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting
- Ability to support learners in both English and French (bilingualism)
Additional Requirements
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification
- Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) dated within the past 12 months
- Comfortable working in a clinic environment with children of varying needs and abilities
