We design, build, and commission control systems for commercial and institutional buildings, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and municipal infrastructure — from Edmonton and Saskatoon to remote communities across the NWT and Nunavut.

Job Summary
We're looking for a Project Technologist or Project Engineer to be the technical backbone of our automation projects. This is the person who takes a project from specification review through design, procurement, build, and testing — coordinating the technical work so the field team arrives on site with the right equipment, the right drawings, and a system that's already been proven on the bench.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering and execution. You'll be sourcing instrumentation, producing IO drawings, developing PLC code, and working alongside project managers, instrumentation technicians, and clients. If you like owning the technical detail of a project rather than just one slice of it, this is that role.

We're open on credentials. Whether you come from an engineering technology background or hold an engineering degree, the scope and compensation will be set to match what you bring. The Project Engineer title is available to candidates registered with APEGA as a P.Eng. or Member-in-Training; technology-stream candidates hold the Project Technologist title.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Coordination

- Serve as the technical lead on assigned automation projects, coordinating design, procurement, panel build, and testing activities from award through commissioning handoff
- Review contract documents, specifications, P&IDs;,



and control narratives; identify gaps, conflicts, and scope risks early and issue RFIs as required
- Work with Project Managers to develop technical schedules, long-lead item lists, and submittal packages
- Interface with clients, consulting engineers, general contractors, and equipment vendors on technical matters

Instrumentation & Procurement

- Select and source process instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemical analyzers) and control hardware to meet specification and application requirements
- Prepare equipment submittals and shop drawing packages for engineer review and approval
- Evaluate vendor quotations, manage technical clarifications, and coordinate delivery against project schedule

Design & Documentation

- Produce IO lists, IO drawings, panel layouts, and wiring schematics for PLC and control cabinets
- Develop and maintain control narratives, sequences of operation, and point schedules
- Prepare FAT procedures and O&M; documentation; issue as-built drawing packages at project close-out

Programming & Systems

- Develop, test, and document PLC and HMI/SCADA programs (Allen-Bradley, Honeywell, or equivalent platforms)
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing and pre-commissioning of control panels prior to shipment
- Provide remote and on-site technical support to field crews during installation, commissioning, and startup

Qualifications

Required

- Electrical, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering Technology diploma,



or a degree in Electrical Engineering
- 3+ years in automation, controls, or systems integration — ideally in water/wastewater, industrial process, or building automation
- Demonstrated ability to produce IO drawings and control panel documentation; AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent an asset
- Working knowledge of instrumentation selection, control system architecture, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, EtherNet/IP)
- Familiarity with CSA electrical code, municipal standards, and control system specification formats
- Strong written communication and documentation discipline — this role produces deliverables clients read
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally across Western and Northern Canada

Preferred

- Degree in Electrical Engineering with P.Eng. or M.I.T. standing with APEGA
- PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley RSLogix/Studio 5000, Honeywell, or comparable platforms) — strongly preferred
- ASET certification (C.E.T. or R.E.T.) for technology-stream candidates
- Experience with northern or remote project delivery

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
