(Temporary) Security Guard - Full Time - Port Colborne Hospital

Site Description: Niagara Health – Port Colborne Hospital is a community hospital dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centred care to residents of Port Colborne and the surrounding Niagara region. The hospital offers a range of emergency, diagnostic, and outpatient services, helping ensure patients have access to essential healthcare close to home.

Position: Security Guard

Site: Port Colborne Hospital

Hours: Continental Days (0800-2000hrs) or/

Continental Nights (2000- 0800)

Status: 6 Month Contract

Payrate: $19.04/hr.

Averaging Agreement: Averaging Agreement after 88 hours

Key responsibilities:

- Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
- Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
- Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
- Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
- Greeting and assisting visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
- Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches,



and security concerns.
- Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
- Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed.
- Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards

Prerequisites:

- Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
- Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider
- Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella , Covid Vaccine two doses, and two step TB skin test
- English (oral and written) fluency is a must
- Must have one year experience in healthcare security, or law enforcement
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services will be an asset
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- Applicants who do not possess these certifications can opt into Paladin's Use of Force (UOF)/Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position

Please be aware: The UOF/MOAB certification is not paid as it is a pre-employment requisite; however, Paladin will cover all the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
