Dark Horse Espresso is located on the Departure Side of the Hamilton International Airport. Offering freshly made Grab and Go Food. Locally sourced craft beers and spirits, and our own locally roasted coffee. We are seeking highly motivated individuals to grow with our company. About The Position

A Dark Horse Barista has a passion for coffee, community and enjoys working as part of a team. Candidates must possess a natural affinity for customer service and get excited by the chance to build their skill-set within the coffee industry. Dark Horse is proud to provide Baristas with an environment that supports their growth through both paid for training and opportunities for career advancement.

General Responsibilities

- Provide exceptional customer service and foster a warm and inclusive environment
- Prepare coffee beverages according to company recipes (with a specific emphasis on accurate dial-ins of our Espresso menu)
- Prepare and serve alcoholic beverages, including mixed cocktails, beer, wine, and canned beverages.
- Support all product and services at cafe including food, pastry and merchandising
- Continue to enhance collaboration with our partners at Detour Coffee & Dear Grain Bakery
- Represent Dark Horse within the specialty coffee community
- Act with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture,



values and mission of Dark Horse
- Follow health and safety policies
- Follow all rules and regulations in place at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM)
- Provide management with feedback on how we can improve our processes
- Demonstrate strategic understanding of food service operations by providing recommendations
- Execute (when necessary) ordering, inventory management, queue management, and more
- Follows all operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling & safety, security during each shift
- Taking food and beverage orders using POS system (when necessary)
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Experience within a specialty coffee program
- Well-developed personal brand and a proven ability to build relationships across an industry.
- Should be an active member of the specialty coffee community
- A proven executor that has participated the successful growth of food properties
- Comfortable with key hospitality software including POS, scheduling and purchasing systems
- Highly accountable and well-organized, with an ability to oversee a team of staff and prioritize multiple projects
- An insatiable curiosity and willingness to learn, anchored in a constant pursuit of personal development




- Collaborative and innovative consensus builder that solicits 360-degree feedback
- Can inspire and influence staff, consumers and other stakeholders
- A positive ambassador with robust communication skills and a genuine kindness, thoughtfulness.
- Must hold valid Ontario Smart Serve and Ontario Food Handler certifications.

Good to Have

- Barista experience : 1 year
- Bartending experience: 1 year
- Hospitality: 3 years
- Specialty coffee : 1 year
- RAIC approval or willingness to take(Dark Horse Espresso will pay for the RAIC application process and monthly parking at YHM)
- Potential Candidates must have their Smart Serve Certification.

Schedule and Pay

- Monday to Friday & Weekends
- This is a federal property location and non-standard working hours
Compensation $17.60-$19.00 per hour, plus gratuities
