Role Overview

Active Scale Manufacturing Inc. designs and builds heavy-duty truck scales, platform scales, and industrial weighing systems from our Brantford, ON facility. As a General Labour team member, you are an essential part of the production floor — supporting fabrication, assembly, material handling, and finishing operations across all stages of scale production.

This is a hands-on, entry-level shop-floor role suited to individuals who take pride in physical work, show up ready to contribute, and want to grow within a stable manufacturing setting. You will work closely with welders, fitters, and the Production Manager to keep build schedules on track and maintain a safe, organized workspace.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Assembly Support

- Assist welders and fitters with component staging, positioning, and bolt-up of structural steel frames and scale assemblies.
- Load and offload materials, steel stock, finished goods, and delivery trucks using manual handling and mechanical aids.
- Move and position heavy assemblies using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment under supervision.
- Cut, grind, and prepare steel components as directed using hand tools, grinders, and band saws.
- Support production flow by staging parts, kitting hardware, and keeping work cells stocked and organized.

Shop Maintenance & Housekeeping

- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
- Perform general shop duties: sweeping, waste removal, tool organization, and consumables replenishment.
- Assist with preventive housekeeping tasks and shop layout improvements as directed.

Quality & Safety

- Follow all Active Scale standard operating procedures (SOPs) for material handling, surface finishing, and shop operations.
- Always comply with all OHSA regulations and company health and safety policies.




- Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE): steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hat where required.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, near-misses, equipment deficiencies, or injuries to the Production Manager.
- Participate in daily shop meetings, safety briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

- Previous experience in a manufacturing, construction, warehousing, or general labour environment.
- Forklift operator certificate or overhead crane experience.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, or basic shop equipment.
- Physically capable of repetitive lifting (up to 50 lbs), extended standing, and working in varied shop conditions (heat, noise, metal dust).
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment and industrial machinery.
- Reliable, punctual, and a team-first attitude with a genuine willingness to learn.
- Strong attention to safety and a commitment to following procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a team.

Work Schedule

Monday to Thursday, 5:00 am to 3:30 pm. Friday overtime available based on production requirements. Any hours beyond 44 per week are paid at 1.5× in accordance with the Ontario Employment Standards Act, 2000.

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
