THE OPPORTUNITY

The Vista on Sparks, located in Ottawa, Ontario is actively seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our growing team.

Reporting to the Lifestyle Manager, the Fitness Instructor is responsible for delivering personal training sessions and fitness classes in accordance with legislative/regulatory requirements and Company policies and procedures.

- Shift Times: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., weekends and holidays
- Work Location and Arrangement: Ottawa, ONSITE

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

- For the purpose of identifying suitable exercises and promoting safe and effective equipment use, the Personal Trainer will conduct initial mobility and strength assessments for new residents upon move-in and annually thereafter.
- Individualized exercise plans will be developed based on each resident’s goals, physical abilities, and medical considerations. The Personal Trainer will collaborate with the Lifestyle and Care teams to support resident wellness goals and ensure all required physician directives and exercise clearances are obtained and documented.
- Provide one-on-one personal training sessions, ensuring correct technique, safety, and positive encouragement.




- Monitor resident progress and adjust programs as needed, completing documentation of participation where required.
- Educate residents on fall prevention, strength-building, flexibility, and balance strategies to support independence and safer mobility.
- Instruct residents on the proper use of fitness equipment, exercise techniques, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Maintain a clean, protected, and welcoming workplace in the Fitness Centre, ensuring equipment is sanitized and orderly.
- Foster supportive and positive relationships with residents through excellent communication, motivation, and customer service.
- Coordinate and schedule training sessions efficiently to support accessibility and resident satisfaction.
- Remain current on senior-focused fitness methods, certifications, and industry best practices through ongoing professional development.
- Follow all workplace policies, health and safety regulations, and organizational procedures.
- Demonstrate professionalism and represent the community positively by adhering to dress code and uniform standards.
- Attend staff meetings, education sessions, and mandatory training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Role requires being physically active for the majority of the shift, including standing, walking, and demonstrating exercises on various surfaces.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs independently and push/pull up to 50 lbs.
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, and stooping.
- Must be able to safely lead and participate in aqua-fit and group fitness activities.

WHO YOU ARE

- Secondary School Diploma required.
- Post-secondary education in kinesiology, recreation, health promotion, or related field is considered an asset.
- Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT preferred)



or equivalent nationally recognized certification (e.g., CanFitPro PTS) or equivalent.
- Aqua Fit an asset.
- CPR and First Aid certificates (current).
- Proven experience as a Personal Trainer or similar role in fitness or health coaching.
- Solid verbal and written English communication skills.
- Demonstrated teaching ability with patience and clarity in instruction.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with others to promote a positive culture.
- Must be able to provide a police check with vulnerable sector screen upon hire.
- Must be able to provide results of TB (tuberculosis) testing (2-step skin test or chest x-ray) upon hire.
- Must be able to provide a record of vaccination for COVID-19 (minimum 2 doses) upon hire.
