Job Summary:
We currently have an open position for a Production Lead Hand to join our team on the day shift (7:00 am – 3:30 pm). The Production Lead Hand is a hands-on role that heavily involves leading and planning, with a smaller portion dedicated to direct involvement in tasks. Key responsibilities include ensuring area safety, overseeing work completion and delivery, assigning tasks to team members, controlling work-in-process inventory, applying 5S principles, measuring process performance, addressing material and equipment issues, providing process training, and coaching employee performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily huddle meetings, set goals, delegate tasks, and track team
- Organize tasks based on production schedules, resolve or escalate production problems, and ensure high-quality, on-time delivery
- Communicate regularly with the team about responsibilities, goals and production issues
- Provide updates to supervisors on production performance and personnel issues
- Provide coaching and guidance to staff under the direction of the Production Supervisor
- Act as a subject matter expert on R4 and equipment operation
- Lead by example, demonstrating accountability, integrity, and strong work ethics
- Direct daily activities and ensure proper training for new hires
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper tracking of on-site products
- Address material shortages, machine issues, and safety concerns, and escalate as needed
- Work with Supervisor to assess workload, allocate labor efficiently, and manage shift priorities to meet KPIs
- Perform end of campaign inventory counts to ensure physical counts align with records
- Promote and enforce daily housekeeping practices to maintain a clean and organized workplace
- Prepare materials, job assignments, and production lineup
- Communicate maintenance issues related to facilities and equipment to the appropriate authorities
- Monitor staff tasks to ensure accuracy and timeliness of production
- Assist staff in understanding their roles and achieving production targets related to quality and quantity
- Identify production issues and communicate them to the Supervisor promptly
- Ensure all required documentation, checks, and reports are completed during your shift
- Identify challenges, improve processes, and ensure productivity goals are met
- Facilitate teamwork, coach employee performance and implement or escalate team suggestions
- Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed
- Ensure smooth shift transition by sharing critical information with the next shift and shutting down equipment at the end of the shift
- Ensure safe work practices and equipment use and proper PPE as well as meeting the safety, quality and production targets by maintaining compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of counterbalance forklift experience is required
- Previous Lead Hand experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
- Previous experience handling chemicals considered an asset
- Experience working in a continuous improvement environment, focusing on process and procedural enhancements
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain production equipment
- Knowledge of SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and safe chemical handling practices
- Safety, Quality and continuous improvement oriented
- Basic math, communication & problem-solving skills
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide team members
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions from the Production Supervisor and contribute to team goals
- Must be able to lead a multicultural team effectively
- Strong attention to detail and exhibits responsiveness in time-sensitive situations
- Must be self-motivated and committed to the attainment of area/site goals
- Ability to identify and address health and safety concerns in the workplace
Working Conditions:
- Manual dexterity required to work with pumps and other associated equipment
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Work in a fast-paced environment
- Work hazardous chemicals
