Position Description

At Halifax (HFX) Airport Hotel, maintenance employees are responsible for the following:

Building maintenance

Perform routine inspections of buildings to identify and address maintenance needs, including plumbing, electrical, and structural issues.

Conduct repairs on doors, windows, floors, and walls to maintain a secure and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Groundskeeping

Maintain outdoor areas by mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and removing debris to enhance the overall appearance and safety of the property.

Maintain the safety of the hotel grounds during winter by shoveling walkways, guest vehicles and salting walkways.

Monitor and address issues related to landscaping and irrigation systems.

Plumbing and electrical repairs

Address plumbing problems, such as leaks, clogs, and faulty fixtures.

Conduct basic electrical repairs, including replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures.

Equipment maintenance

Perform preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment to minimize downtime and extend their lifespan.

Troubleshoot and repair minor issues in tools and equipment used in daily operations.

Safety inspections

Conduct safety inspections of facilities to identify and address potential hazards.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and implement corrective measures when necessary.

Painting and finishing

Paint and finish surfaces to maintain a fresh and clean appearance, both indoors and outdoors.

Repair and patch walls, ceilings, and other surfaces as needed.





Emergency repairs

Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests, addressing issues such as leaks, power outages, or structural damage.

Collaborate with other team members to prioritize and resolve urgent matters.

Documentation

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and inspections.

Use computer-based property operating system to track and respond to tasks.

Janitorial duties

Perform janitorial tasks, including cleaning common outdoor areas, emptying out trash receptacles and picking up cigarette butts.

Ensure a sanitary and hygienic workplace for occupants.

Assistance in renovations

Assist in renovation projects by providing support in tasks such as demolition, removal of old fixtures, and installation of new components.

Position Requirements

A true desire to satisfy the needs of others in a fast-paced environment. Refined verbal and written communication skills. The availability to work a variety of shifts with days off that vary from week to week, and the ability to work days/evenings, weekends and holidays as required. Previous hotel experience is preferred but not required.
