Dufferin Villa is a 53-unit apartment building for seniors seeking independent living with on-site services. We are located at 1125 Dufferin Avenue E in Portage la Prairie MB and are owned and operated by Portage la Prairie Assisted Living Corporation (PALC), a non-profit community-based organization.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Activities Director is a dynamic and caring individual responsible to plan and implement activity programming that is available and accessible to seniors and persons with disabilities. Programs will be designed to optimize the social, cognitive, emotional and physical functions to assist tenants in maintaining their independent living status. Developing and maintaining a working relationship with volunteers and community resources will be required for programming.

Areas used for programming will need to be prepared ahead of time and then cleaned up following the program or event.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

· Grade 12 or equivalent education required.

· Recognized therapeutic recreation/activity programming certificate or completion of five courses of the “Therapeutic Recreation for Older Adults” program at RRC Polytech an asset.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· Intermediate computer skills with the ability to function within Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher) environment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Experience working with older adults and/or vulnerable population.





· Experience working with volunteers.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

· Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with tenants, families and staff.

· Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, be personable, a good listener, productive and professional with strong leadership skills.

· Demonstrate group facilitation skills.

· Ability to plan, organize and work independently or as a team member.

· Ability to respect confidentiality.

· Demonstrate ability to meet physical and mental demands of the job.

CONDITONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

· One evening shift per week will be required.

· Flexibility for occasional programming on a weekend day as necessary.

· Complete and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Maintain vaccinations currently available to protect our vulnerable population.

· Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a road worthy vehicle.

HOURS/DAYS OF WORK:

· Part-Time, 0.7 Full time Equivalent (approximately 28 hours per week)

· Hours/days of work to be mutually agreed upon by successful candidate with the Administrator/Manager to best meet the needs for programming.
