Bakery Retail & Production Associate

Vann’s Fine Bakery is seeking a Bakery Retail & Production Associate to join our team in a role that combines attentive customer service, hands-on baking, and efficient kitchen operations.

This position includes front counter service, baking, stocking, cleaning, and general bakery support. The person in this role must be comfortable working independently, following detailed procedures, managing changing priorities, and moving between customer service and production tasks throughout the day.

Providing customers with a welcoming and positive experience is the primary responsibility of this position. Bakery Retail & Production Associates are also expected to maintain product levels, complete assigned baking and preparation tasks, keep work areas clean and organized, and help daily operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

- Greet and serve customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Process payments and operate the point-of-sale system accurately.
- Help customers select products and answer questions about menu items, ingredients, and availability.
- Package products carefully and address customer questions or concerns appropriately.
- Stock baked goods and retail products, monitor inventory, and replenish items as needed.
- Follow recipes and production instructions to prepare and bake cookies, brownies, muffins, granola, and other bakery products.
- Maintain established standards for product quality, portioning, presentation, and food safety.
- Organize and prioritize tasks so products are prepared, baked,



and stocked when needed.
- Complete opening and closing duties using established checklists.
- Keep customer, production, storage, and washroom areas clean and organized.
- Complete dishes, floors, counters, garbage, and other general cleaning tasks.
- Report shortages, quality concerns, errors, and equipment issues to the bakery manager.
- Act as a keyholder when scheduled and follow all opening, closing, and security procedures.
- Complete other tasks as needed to support daily bakery operations.

Qualifications and Expectations
- Professional baking or cooking experience, ideally in a bakery, café, restaurant, or similar food-service environment.
- Customer service experience.
- Ability to accurately follow recipes, production instructions, portioning standards, and food-safety procedures.
- A genuine interest in baking and efficient, organized kitchen operations.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow written procedures and checklists.
- Robust organization, time management, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and work efficiently in a busy environment.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.




- Willingness to complete both customer-facing and behind-the-scenes work, including baking, stocking, dishes, and cleaning.
- Availability to work daytime shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Flexibility to occasionally pick up additional shifts or provide coverage when another employee is unavailable. The ability to assist with shift coverage is an important expectation of this position.
- A current food handler or food safety certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
- High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.
- Ability to bend, reach, carry trays, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work around ovens, hot equipment, food ingredients, and cleaning products.
