About the Role Kent is looking for a Boiler & Furnace Specialist to support a SAGD project. This role plays a critical part in the engineering, safety, and performance of boilers, furnaces, burners, and fired equipment systems used in thermal oil sands production. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for supporting the design, specification, and operation of multi-fuel-fired equipment, including systems using alternative and blended fuels.
This role combines office-based engineering, regulatory compliance, and site-based technical support in a highly regulated, safety-critical setting.
Skills and Responsibilities Responsibilities:
- Engineering and reviewing boilers, furnaces, burners, and fired equipment systems
- Supporting multi-fuel firing systems, including alternative and blended fuel sources
- Reviewing burner management systems (BMS) and safety interlocks
- Preparing and reviewing equipment specifications, data sheets, and material requisitions (MRs)
- Ensuring compliance with Alberta fuel safety authorities and applicable codes and standards
- Reviewing vendor quotations, drawings, and technical submissions
- Participating in FAT and SAT activities
- Supporting site inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Providing technical guidance to clients and project teams In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their career development. Your knowledge/skills, education and experience: Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
- Mechanical Engineering degree
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered with APEGA
- SAGD project experience
- Strong knowledge of boilers, furnaces, burners, and fuel systems
- Experience working with Alberta fuel safety regulations and authorities
- Experience reviewing vendor packages and technical documentation
- Ability to travel to site for inspections and support Communication:
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal. Behaviour/Core Competencies:
