Job Summary The Business Analyst, System Work Equipment is responsible for supporting various initiatives driven by the Senior Manager, System Work Equipment, to ensure that CN operates a safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective fleet of engineering heavy equipment across CN’s network. Through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, data analysis, and the adoption of new technology, the incumbent delivers objective, data-driven solutions to support CN’s engineering department’s goals and objectives. In addition, the incumbent carries out various reporting, system compliance, and training functions.

Main Responsibilities Project Management

Complete capital planning analyses, as well as all related activities to enable new equipment purchases and equipment rebuild programs (e.g., budget planning, business case development, maintenance of equipment specifications, Authorization for Expenditure requests)

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful development, rollout, enhancement, and continued use of various technology-related systems (e.g., Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), telemetry devices, collision avoidance systems)

Complete the asset disposal process for retired units, as per the surplus asset sales policy and ensure that equipment statuses are up to date across various systems

Develop project plans, timelines, and project performance tools to ensure that key work equipment projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budgetary boundaries

Collaborate with and support Procurement and Supply Management (P&SM;) on routine and ad-hoc request initiatives (e.g., Request for Quote (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Information (RFI))

Complete various equipment-related administrative tasks including providing documentation for governmental requirements, invoice entries, work order creations, and other day-to-day tasks

Attend various industry committee meetings, such as American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA) and North American Chief Engineering Meeting (NACE), and develop presentations Field Support Develop, maintain, and support work equipment tools and systems that facilitate key work equipment activities and future decision making as well as provide training for end users on tools and systems





Develop and maintain job aids and process maps of key activities to facilitate new employee training, as well as ongoing training of existing employees

Inspect newly ordered machines at vendor locations before delivery, and take required actions based on inspections, to ensure that CN’s expectations are met

Be an active owner to influence Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), engineering equipment programs, and continuous improvement efforts

Perform field visits to assess performance of Maintenance of Way equipment, systems, and tools

Liaise between Work Equipment, P&SM;, and vendors to resolve field issues

Create Risk Assessment Process Sheets (RAPS) to assess the risks associated with different field tasks

Maintain SharePoint to allow the Work Equipment team to easily access documents, reports, safety items, and other important information in a centralized location Reporting and Business Analytics Develop and maintain various analytical tools (e.g., dashboards, reports) and presentations to ensure that CN’s Maintenance of Way equipment is the most reliable and cost-effective fleet that CN can afford, to highlight Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to support the Work Equipment team, and to facilitate and influence future decision making

Improve Engineering equipment reliability through data driven, full life cycle equipment analysis

Conduct market studies and benchmarking exercises to ensure that CN has best in class equipment and equipment accessories

Track equipment productivity to identify units that are not meeting targets, and take necessary actions to ensure that root causes are investigated and resolved

Identify equipment, assemblies, and parts that account for most work block delays and conduct root cause analysis with stakeholders to prevent future occurrences Working Conditions The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires regular travel (50%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.).

Requirements Requirements Experience Equipment Fleet Management Minimum of 3 years of experience in Equipment Fleet Management, Business Analytics, and Project Management,



Process Management or a similar role oRailroad experience* Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset Education/Certification/Designation Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Statistics, Commerce, or equivalent work experience*

High School Diploma or equivalent

Project Management Institute (PMI) Certificate*

Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background*

Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)*
