About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and customer-focused CAD Designer / Customer Design Representative to join our team. In this role, you will work directly with customers to understand their requirements, develop design concepts, and prepare accurate shop drawings for customer approval before manufacturing.

The successful candidate will be technically minded, highly detail-oriented, and confident working on complex design projects. You will need to communicate clearly with customers, provide practical design solutions, and manage challenging conversations professionally when required. Key Responsibilities

Meet with customers to understand their design requirements and project expectations.

Develop creative and practical design concepts.

Prepare accurate and detailed shop drawings using AutoCAD.

Review drawings with customers and obtain written approval before manufacturing.

Interpret measurements, specifications, sketches, and technical information.

Identify potential design, measurement, or manufacturing issues before production.

Make revisions based on customer feedback while maintaining accuracy and project timelines.

Communicate effectively with customers, production staff, and other team members.

Manage difficult or challenging customer conversations with confidence and professionalism.

Ensure all drawings and documentation meet company standards.

Work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.

Required Qualifications and Skills





Strong proficiency and formal training in AutoCAD.

Previous experience preparing shop drawings, technical drawings, or manufacturing drawings.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong understanding of measurements, dimensions, scale, and technical specifications.

Fluent spoken and written English.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Confidence handling difficult conversations and resolving customer concerns professionally.

Ability to interpret complex design requirements and develop practical solutions.

Technically minded with strong problem-solving abilities.

Creative approach to design and a willingness to suggest improvements.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Preferred

Qualifications

Experience in a manufacturing, construction, cabinetry, millwork, metalworking, or similar technical environment.

Experience taking or verifying field measurements.

Familiarity with manufacturing processes and production requirements.

Experience obtaining customer sign-off on drawings.

Knowledge of additional design or 3D modelling software.
