Job Title: Cafe Supervisor
Job Overview: The Students’ Association of Olds College (SAOC) is mandated to promote the general welfare of students and to provide for the administration of student services, and one of our key student services is food & beverage operations. To that end, the Cafe Supervisor supports the daily operations of Bloom Cafe. Reporting to the Food & Beverage Manager (FBM), the Cafe Supervisor is responsible for ensuring top-tier customer service, solid team performance, and an efficient, welcoming environment.
Acting as a leader and mentor for part-time staff while maintaining a hands-on presence in day-to-day operations. Above all, the Cafe Supervisor must demonstrate reliability, creativity, and a collaborative attitude.
Objectives of this Role:
- Manage daily operations of Bloom Cafe in line with SAOC service standards and departmental goals.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
- Ensure compliance with SAOC bylaws, AHS regulations, and all health, safety, and licensing requirements.
- Support the creation of exceptional guest experiences by leading by example and ensuring quality control.
- Foster innovation and collaboration between Bloom Cafe and Head Chef, continually enhance menus, and offer a consistent and diverse menu.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that organization of space is kept to standard
- Encourage staff to contribute to seasonal menus
- Ensure food handling and safety standards are met at all times; act as the designated first aider for The Crossing and off-site events.
- Utilize inventory management software to track food costs, minimize over-ordering, and keep margins tight.
- Aid in hiring, scheduling, and training BOH staff; collaborate with the FBM to develop best practices and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Administer and manage employee concerns and disputes in compliance with SAOC Policy.

- Attend Weekly Manager meetings,
and Standing meetings with FMB and Head Chef two times daily.
- Work with Marketing to ensure that Bloom Message is consistent
- Work with Studex to ensure that student events hosted at bloom are executed properly.
- Advising the Food & Beverage Manager (FBM) on hiring and termination of employees.
- Supervise daily cafe, ensuring consistency in product quality, speed of service, and cleanliness.
- Create and execute a side duty and Chore list for slow times.
- Lead and support Baristas offering coaching and direction throughout each shift.
- Coordinate staff schedules to meet operational needs and budget.
- Train new hires and ensure all team members follow proper food handling, customer service, and cash handling procedures.
- Handle escalated customer concerns and provide positive, professional resolutions.
- Maintain stock levels by monitoring inventory, placing orders, and minimizing waste.
- Oversee equipment use and maintenance, reporting issues to the FBM as needed.
- Track and record daily sales, ensuring accurate reconciliation of POS tills.
- Participate in event planning and execution for on-campus SAOC events where Bloom is featured.
- Maintain communication with the FBM regarding staffing, supply needs, and operational challenges.
- Enforce food safety standards and ensure AHS compliance across all service points.
- Take on service or barista duties when needed.
- Communicate Premade food needs to kitchen
- Order and ensure delivery items from local vendors
Skills and Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role within food service
- Strong understanding of coffee/beverage prep, customer service, and point-of-sale operations
- Valid Food Safety certification (required)
- ProServe certification is an asset
- Standard First Aid (required)
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
- Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings or weekends for events

Position type: Full-time, temporary (contract ends April 24, 2026 with the possibility of renewal). About SAOC: SAOC is an independent, non-partisan statutory corporation which operates in a not-for-profit fashion. We are incorporated by the Post-Secondary Learning Act to provide for the administration of student services and the promotion of the general welfare of the students of Olds College, who are our members. Our Board of Directors and Executive Council are Olds College students elected by their peers to serve one-year terms and set the strategic direction for the organization. This working board operates collaboratively with the Executive Director and core staff.
The SAOC has four primary departments: governance, administration, food & beverage, and student experience. Our primary revenue source is membership fees, but we also own and operate two on-campus food service facilities, The Crossing Restaurant and Bloom Cafe. The SAOC and its subsidiaries are currently located at 4500 50 St, Olds AB T4H 1R6.
