Position Overview
As the Compositing Supervisor, you will lead the compositing team across one or more productions, working closely with the Head of VFX, SVP of VFX, Supervisors, Producers, and Coordinators. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality compositing work that meets creative, technical,
and scheduling expectations while serving as the primary liaison between the compositing team and other departments.
Responsibilities
- Lead the creative and technical direction of the compositing team, ensuring work meets client expectations, production goals, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with VFX Supervisors, Producers, and Coordinators to establish priorities, assign work, and deliver projects on schedule.
- Review sequences for creative and technical continuity, perform final quality control, and troubleshoot complex compositing challenges as needed.
- Mentor, support, and develop compositing artists through coaching, feedback, technical training, and performance management.
- Communicate production status, team workload, and pipeline requirements while fostering strong collaboration across departments.
- Contribute hands-on to complex shots, develop efficient workflows, and help improve production processes and pipeline solutions.
- Participate in client reviews, recruitment efforts, and post-project evaluations while promoting a positive, collaborative team culture.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of production experience in VFX compositing, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in episodic television and on the vendor or facility side.
- Expert knowledge of Nuke, compositing workflows, and modern VFX production pipelines.
- Extensive experience with photoreal compositing, keying, tracking, rotoscoping, cleanup, color grading, multi-pass CG integration, projections, and image formats and color management workflows.
- Excellent artistic eye and attention to detail, with the ability to solve technical and creative challenges efficiently.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with experience managing artists, competing priorities, and multiple deadlines.
- Hands-on experience with complex shot work and the ability to provide technical guidance and troubleshooting throughout production.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with Python or pipeline scripting.
- Experience with ComfyUI workflows.
- Familiarity with FTrack or similar production management tools.

- This is a remote freelance position. Rates are negotiable based on the Contractor’s portfolio, level of experience, and the complexity of the services provided.
- Candidates must be located in British Columbia, Canada, and legally eligible to work in Canada. We do not offer relocation options.
- You must have a reliable internet connection via Ethernet and be available for team meetings and reviews during Pacific Time.
