Job Overview
Seeking Level 1 and Level 2 Construction Electrician apprentices in the Lower Mainland to join our crews on substation and utility projects across British Columbia. This is a chance to bank hours toward your ticket while working shoulder-to-shoulder with certified journeypersons on high-voltage infrastructure.
No substation experience is required. We are looking for individuals with a solid safety mindset, dependability, and a genuine willingness to learn the trade.
What You Will Be Doing
All work is performed under the direct supervision of certified journeyperson electricians.
- Assist with the installation of substation equipment, including control cabinets, transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, protective relays, and reactors.
- Pull, rack, and dress cable, including large-diameter runs up to 2750 kcmil.
- Support journeypersons on high-voltage terminations, cable splicing, and testing.
- Assist with conduit and cable tray installation, grounding, and control wiring.
- Move and stage material, tools, and equipment; assist with rigging and hoisting under supervision.
- Learn to read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Participate in tailboard meetings, daily hazard assessments, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Work to CSA electrical code requirements and all site safety rules.
What You Need
- Registered as a Construction Electrician apprentice with SkilledTradesBC, or eligible to register.
- Gr.
12 English or French and Gr. 12 Math
- Gr. 11 Physics (or higher)
- 1 Senior Science
- (Gr. 11 or higher) *Ex. Chemistry, Biology, Electrical Shop, Manufacturing or Transportation Technology
- Valid BC driver’s license and reliable transportation to site.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and to travel to project sites in BC as required.
- Able to lift, climb, and work at heights, and comfortable working in and around energized substation environments once trained.
- Standard First Aid, WHMIS, Fall Protection, and Confined Space tickets are considered an asset - we can help you get the ones you are missing.
