The Calgary FTG team is looking to add a Customer Engineering Specialist to our team, configuring, modifying, and deploying custom solutions using our proprietary hardware and software. You will have the opportunity to develop applications for airborne platforms in C, analyze real time aircraft data, troubleshoot complex technical issues through to root cause, and act as a technical point of contact for airline and aviation customers worldwide. You will also be working closely with Account Management, the Customer Engineering team, and development staff to deliver reliable, high value solutions.

We're looking for (not all required)

- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems through to root cause, and to own a solution through deployment and documentation
- Comfortable coding in C, or a similarly low-level language (e.g. C++, Rust, embedded assembly), for real-time or resource-constrained systems
- Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate technical detail clearly and patiently for non-technical, customer-facing audiences in English (verbal & written)
- Comfortable switching between languages, tools, and technical domains as needed; we apply the best tool for the job
- Experience with database technologies such as SQL Server, MySQL, or MongoDB
- Experience with Linux-based systems
- Ability to develop unit tests and system testing tools using simulated or real hardware
- Experience managing version control in a high reliability, high quality environment
- Demonstrated ability and desire to learn quickly, and to thrive in a dynamic, fast-changing environment
- Works effectively across engineering, account management, and customer-facing contexts
- Prior AWS experience





Assets (not required but would be looked at as differentiators)

- Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline; or an aviation-related credential such as Aircraft Maintenance, Avionics, Aeronautical Engineering, or Aircraft Structures
- Additional language experience such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Bash scripting, or Golang
- Familiarity with additional database platforms such as DB2, DynamoDB, Athena, or S3
- Experience with specific Linux distributions such as Yocto or OpenWRT
- Familiarity with development methodologies and tools including code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and automated build systems
- Experience with satellite-based communication protocols
- Experience in test automation and automated code coverage analysis
- Knowledge of common aircraft data buses such as ARINC 717 and ARINC 429, or a strong desire to learn
- Experience simulating connected devices and systems
- AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
- Remote system and firmware management experience
- Experience building AWS Lambda functions

What you'll be doing (condensed)

- Interpret internal requirements and third-party technical documentation to develop and deliver solutions
- Analyze aircraft data to assess correctness and develop validation algorithms
- Troubleshoot field problems through to root cause and implement effective, robust solutions
- Write applications for airborne platforms in C to analyze real time aircraft data and trigger condition-based reports
- Diagnose reported issues by analyzing aircraft behaviour, flight reports, and other flight data, drawing on knowledge of the full data pipeline from generation and collection through transmission, processing, and reporting
- Maintain aircraft data, configurations, and software via ground-based systems
- Uphold and improve code quality, standards, and implementation through testing, tooling, and application of best practices
- Respond to on-call support outside of business hours when needed
- Work across departments to support proper implementation and ongoing customer needs
- Triage incoming support tickets and manage the Jira support queue, assessing urgency and routing to the appropriate team member
