The Abby Community School Society is a non-profit organization, located in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. The Abby Community School Society is looking for fun and motivated individuals to join their instructing team. We are looking for program instructors who will lead Dance Programs for children & youth. This posting is for a Dance Instructor.

What is a community school?

It is a designated school facility that is open beyond the traditional school schedule to offer a variety of community learning and recreational opportunities to people of all ages. Community schools are multi-service facilities working in partnership with other community agencies, organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life in the community.

Our Community school will be running classes out of SD34 Abbotsford School sites such as (but not limited to):

- Abbotsford Senior Secondary School
- Abbotsford Middle School
- Eugene Reimer Middle School
- Chief Dan George Middle School
- Dormick Park Elementary
- Alexander Elementary School
- Matsqui Elementary
- Ross Elementary
- Godson Elementary
- Prince Charles Elementary
- Clearbrook Elementary
- Ten-Broeck Elementary
- Terry Fox Elementary
- Centennial Park Elementary
- Harry Sayers Elementary
- Dave Kandal Elementary
- Auguston Elementary
- Aberdeen Elementary

To enrich the lives of the people in our community by offering a wide range of cultural, recreational, and educational programs and opportunities.

We are currently hiring Dance Instructors who can work our after school programs and evening programs. Shifts are 2 hours in duration. Successful candidates must be available to work from 2pm-5pm (afternoons) and from 5:45pm - 7:45pm (evenings).

This program runs once a week for a duration of 6 weeks total.

Applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Current First Aid is an asset. Compensation is based on experience and programs that are being led.



Compensation for successful applicants range from $18.25 - $21 per hour for this program depending on their experience and skill set. This position is part-time (4-10 hours/week).

Dance Instructor Responsibilities:

- Lesson plan for the program (each program is typically 6 weeks in length, once a week).
- For lesson planning purposes, instructors MUST be proficient in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Canva for creating lesson templates and planning engaging activities.
- Ability to teach using various dance styles and methodologies from a beginner to intermediate level (ballet, tap, jazz, etc.).
- Develop and prepare a lesson plan for the 6 week program.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse group of students.
- Engage, encourage, and motivate students to reach their goals.
- Evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement.
- Choreograph routines and select music for recitals and end of program dance presentation.
- Conduct dance lessons for a group of 12 - 16 children.
- Provide a fun and creative environment for children aged 5-14 years old.
- Be team minded and work well with others.
- Be able to work during the afternoons & evenings (2 hour shifts, 2pm-5pm & 5:45pm - 7:45pm).

Requirements:

- Achieving a Bachelor's degree in dance, has a Bachelors degree in dance, or has multiple years of dance related experience.
- Previous teaching experience required (at least 1 year)
- 2 years of dance experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Energetic, driven, creative, and dependable.
- Demonstrate patience and leadership skills.
- Be organized and have a strong attention to detail.
