About the Role

Step Above Childcare Centre is looking for a reliable, organized, and adaptable team member to fill a dual-capability role as a Daycare Cleaner / Kitchen Support.

This position primarily focuses on facility cleanliness and organization, while also serving as our certified backup cook. You will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our children and staff, while ensuring our kitchen operations run smoothly when covering kitchen duties.

Shift Schedules & Flexibility

This role requires shift flexibility depending on facility operational needs:

- Standard Facility Cleaner Shift: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (8 working hours + 1-hour unpaid break).
- Kitchen Coverage Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (8 working hours + 1-hour unpaid break).
- Note: Candidates must have the availability and flexibility to take on either shift on short notice as operational needs arise.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Role: Facility Cleaner

- Floor Maintenance: Sweep and mop hallways, entrances, and common areas multiple times daily to manage seasonal mess (salt, sand, mud) and maintain qualified standards.
- Waste Management: Monitor and remove trash/recycling from the facility multiple times daily to maintain hygiene and prevent odors.
- Laundry Operations: Manage the daily laundry cycle (washing, drying, folding, and distributing linens) for all classrooms.
- Sanitization: Execute a rotating schedule for deep-cleaning classroom toys, equipment, and high-touch surface areas.




- Glass & Detail Cleaning: Daily cleaning of entrance doors, classroom viewing windows, and feature areas to maintain a smudge-free facility.
- Operational Support: Assist with inventory organizing, moving light-to-medium furniture, activity setups, breaking down boxes, and general facility tasks.

Secondary Role: Kitchen Support / Coverage

- Meal Preparation: Prepare daily meals and snacks from scratch by strictly following set monthly menus, standard recipes, and established portion guides.
- Kitchen Operations: Maintain timing and flow of meal delivery to ensure routines remain on schedule.
- Kitchen Hygiene: Clean, sanitize, and maintain all kitchen prep areas, equipment, and dishware during kitchen coverage shifts in accordance with food safety standards.

What We Are Looking For

- Reliability & Punctuality: Dependable attendance is critical for both morning food prep deadlines and daily cleaning schedules.
- Recipe Compliance & Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately read, follow, and execute written instructions and recipes.
- Physical Stamina: Comfortable being on your feet for the majority of the shift, lifting supplies, and moving light-to-medium furniture.
- Adaptability & Flexibility: Comfortable transitioning between cleaning duties and kitchen coverage as operational needs require, including schedule adjustments.
- Background Checks & Certifications: Must hold a valid Food Safety / Food Handler Certificate and be able to clear standard background checks (Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector, and Child Abuse Registry checks).

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
