ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT: The Employee Health Specialist supports the Human Resources and Health and Safety teams by providing oversight, consultation and guidance of applicable programs, including WSIB claims management, health and medical surveillance, vision & audiometry screening, employee education, hazard identification, employee wellness programs, immunization programs and is the designated medical custodian for the company.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Administer health and medical surveillance programs, including periodic medical reviews in accordance with Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR)

Conduct vision assessments and audiometry testing to monitor and ensure employee fitness for duty

Acts as the designated custodian of employee health records, ensuring compliance with applicable privacy legislation and organizational policies, including the maintenance, security, and confidentiality of employee health information

Administer occupational health module for the health and safety management system

Oversee the hearing and loss prevention program, ensuring effective monitoring and prevention strategies

Support the Fit Testing program for respirators including consultations, risk prevention and maintaining accurate and timely records





Lead the administration of WSIB claims, workplace accommodations, and disability management programs, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and collective agreement requirements

Facilitate early and protected return-to-work initiatives by collaborating with employees, leaders, healthcare providers, unions, and external stakeholders to develop and monitor accommodation and return-to-work plans

Manage complex disability and occupational injury cases, including claim reviews, appeals, employer submissions, and representation in WSIB-related proceedings

Participate in the wellness program as a subject matter expert, promoting positive connection between employee wellness and productivity REQUIREMENTS: Registered Nurse designation with a valid certificate of registration from College of Nurses of Ontario

Occupational Health Nurse Certificate is preferred

Demonstrated knowledge of public health and infection prevention and control (IPAC) guidelines, workplace epidemiology principles, and related best practices

Experience managing Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims and disability case management processes

Sound understanding of employment-related legislation, including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Canada Labour Code, and Canadian Human Rights Act

Experience in program planning and evaluation and statistical data management

Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence required and the ability to travel

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees, management,



and external health providers

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health information with discretion
