Alberta Artistic Swimming (AAS) is the provincial not-for-profit sport association responsible for governing and growing artistic swimming across Alberta. At our core, we're about fitness, fun, and a lifelong love of the water. We are a close, passionate community of about 1,000 athletes, 600 of them recreational swimmers of all ages, across 19 Member Clubs province wide. For the 400 athletes who want to go further, our competitive stream is a pathway to Canada's National Artistic Swimming team.

Our mission is easy: lead and develop people in the sport of artistic swimming in Alberta. Our vision is bigger: lead the nation in every aspect of the sport. We're guided by integrity, collaboration, excellence, and innovation, and by five strategic directions: Advocacy, Athlete Development, Club Development, Coach Development, and Official Development. Now we need a leader who can bring that vision to life.

The Opportunity

As our Executive Director, you won't be a face in a crowded org chart - you'll be AAS. Reporting to the President and accountable to our volunteer Board, you'll be the senior staff leader and chief administrative officer of the Association: the person clubs call when they need support, the person the Board relies on for sound financial and strategic guidance, and the person representing Alberta's artistic swimming community to government, funders, and our national sporting association.

It's a hands-on role for a dynamic, strategic, community-minded leader. Someone who is just as comfortable presenting to the Board as chatting poolside with a club coach. You'll set the tone for a small, dedicated team, build real relationships with our Member Clubs, and find new ways to fund and grow the sport across the province. What You'll Do

- Keep the big picture in mind - Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of AAS's strategic plan and annual operational work plans, in partnership with the Board.




- Lead with financial acumen - lead the financial planning and management of our annual budget, strengthen internal controls, and keep the Board confidently informed.
- Steer governance and strategy - partner with the Board on policy, risk management, Safe Sport, and AAS's long-term strategic plan. Serve as a trusted advisor to the President and Board, providing the information and analysis needed for sound decision-making, and keeping day-to-day operations aligned with the Board's strategic direction.
- Be the face of AAS - be a visible advocate for AAS and the sport, both provincially and nationally. Build genuine rapport with Member Clubs, and represent AAS with the Government of Alberta, Canada Artistic Swimming, and other governance, sport and funding organizations.
- Champion our people - lead and support our staff and help our seasonal coaches and volunteers thrive. Build and nurture a culture that enables each team member to take ownership of their area of responsibility.
- Grow the sport - diversify our revenue through new program development, sponsorship, fundraising, and grants, and build AAS's brand through our website, social media, and community presence.
- Guide the athlete pathway - support programming and coaching/officiating development from grassroots to high performance across the province.

What You'll Bring

- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in a non-profit, sport, or membership-based organization.
- A post-secondary degree in sport management, business administration, non-profit management, recreation administration, or related field.
- Proven track record in strategic and financial management,



including oversight of organizational budgets on a comparable scale. Experience reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors.
- Experience managing staff, volunteers, community partnerships, and government relationships.
- Hybrid and remote leadership experience.
- Experience leading fundraising, sponsorship, and/or grant initiatives with measurable results.
- Real experience in program development, fundraising, sponsorship/grant development, with results to show for it.
- Familiarity with the Alberta and/or Canadian amateur sport system will be viewed as a strong asset.
- The ability to build trust - with clubs, coaches, staff, and Board members alike - and the calm, diplomatic instincts to navigate change.
- Excellent communication skills in one-to-one settings, one to many, written, virtual, and in person.
- A genuine passion for community sport, and comfort rolling up your sleeves in a small, close-knit team.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and hold a valid driver's license.

Why You’ll Love this Role This is a hybrid role, with our office in Edmonton, though we're open to a remote arrangement for the right candidate. It's 40-hours-a-week role, with occasional weekend events and some evening Board or committee meetings woven in. This is balanced by the flexibility and trust that come with leading a small, close-knit team.

AAS supports our staff with a comprehensive benefits package and RRSP contributions, because we know our Executive Director can only pour into the sport if they're able to take care of themselves too.
