Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Envisage Recruitment are partnering with a leading aerospace engineering organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Flight Control Laws (CLaws) Engineer for a permanent opportunity based in Montreal.
This is an exciting prospect to join an advanced Flight Controls engineering team responsible for the design, development, verification, and certification of Fly-By-Wire (FBW) Flight Control Laws. Working across research, development, and aircraft programmes, you'll contribute to the creation of innovative control laws, advanced flight control systems, and pilot-in-the-loop simulations that enhance aircraft performance, handling qualities, and flight safety.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in Flight Control Laws development for Fly-By-Wire aircraft, together with a strong background in aircraft dynamics, control systems engineering, and aerospace software certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and continuously improve Flight Control Laws (CLaws) and associated assessment tools using MATLAB, Simulink, and C++.
- Support the development of Flight Control Laws, autopilot systems, and navigation functions for research and development programmes.
- Develop and maintain Flight Control Laws and system requirements.
- Perform validation and verification (V&V;) activities for new and updated Flight Control Laws.
- Verify and deliver Flight Control Laws in accordance with DO-178B and SAE ARP4754 certification standards.
- Design pilot-in-the-loop Flight Control Laws to meet aircraft handling qualities, flight envelope protection, structural protection, and performance requirements.
- Evaluate Flight Control Laws and Fly-By-Wire system performance through analytical methods, desktop simulations, pilot-in-the-loop simulators, and flight test data.
- Investigate system failures,
stability, and aircraft performance to support continuous product improvement.
- Support the integration of Flight Control Laws into development rigs and supplier hardware platforms, working with leading avionics suppliers including Collins Aerospace, Thales, NRC, and CMC.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the aircraft development and certification lifecycle.
The Person
You will ideally have
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. A PhD in Aerospace Engineering would be highly advantageous.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience developing Flight Control Laws for Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft.
- Strong understanding of aircraft flight dynamics, aerodynamics, stability, control, and handling qualities.
- Expertise in both classical and modern control system design techniques, including SISO and MIMO control systems.
- Experience with advanced Flight Control Law development methodologies and control system analysis.
- Strong knowledge of linear and non-linear control law evaluation techniques, validation, and testing procedures.
- Experience with pilot-in-the-loop simulation and flight control system evaluation.
- Good understanding of aerospace software certification standards including DO-178B, together with requirements validation and verification processes.
- Advanced proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and C++ for modelling, simulation, and software development.
- Knowledge of state estimation techniques and Kalman filtering would be advantageous.
- Fluent written and spoken English and French.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
This is an exceptional opportunity to work on cutting-edge Fly-By-Wire aircraft technologies within a world-class aerospace engineering organisation. You'll play a key role in developing next-generation flight control systems while benefiting from exposure to advanced research programmes, innovative technologies, and outstanding long-term career development opportunities.
