JOB OPENING: Forklift Operator

This position is a unionized position and covered by the collective agreement between Trecan and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, Local 56 (the “Union”). Preference will be given to internal applicants with the necessary qualifications to perform the duties of the position. The successful applicant will be required to be a member in good standing or become a member of the Union.

Trecan Combustion Limited has an immediate opening for a full-time, permanent Forklift Operator to join our team. We are a Monday to Friday operation, with shifts running from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to receive, transport, and organize steel, components, and finished products used in the fabrication of snowmelters. This role supports production by ensuring materials are available when needed, maintaining inventory, assisting with shipping and receiving, and keeping the shop and yard organized and operating efficiently.

JOB TASKS:

- Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, dollies, and skid steers to move raw materials, fabricated components, and finished equipment throughout the shop and yard.
- Load and unload trucks, inspect incoming shipments, verify quantities, and report damaged freight.
- Pick, stage, label, wrap, and prepare materials and completed equipment for shipment.
- Store materials and maintain organized inventory locations in both the shop and outdoor yard.
- Handle steel, fabricated components, hazardous materials, and other industrial products safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Complete daily equipment inspections, report maintenance requirements, and maintain inspection logs.
- Assist production by delivering materials to workstations and supporting assembly activities as required.




- Perform general housekeeping, including yard cleanup, sweeping, waste removal, and maintaining safe work areas.
- Attend weekly toolbox meetings, accurately record labour time, and follow all company safety procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Valid Forklift Operator Certification.
- At least 2 years experience operating forklifts in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with overhead cranes and skid steers is considered an asset.
- Ability to work safely indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe workplace and following all company safety policies.
- Ability to maintain required certifications and training throughout employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, standing, and walking.
- Must wear all required PPE, including CSA-approved safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, hard hats, gloves, and other required protective equipment.
